On a courtesy visit, I received the FCT Commander of the Nigeria Forest Security Services, Kyauta Bawa Atandu, in my office today. Established in 2016, the organization is dedicated to countering criminal activities within forest areas an effort that aligns with the recently launched Federal Government’s Forest Guards Initiative.

Our discussions centered on the significant strides the organisation has made in safeguarding our forests from exploitation by criminal elements and the challenges they continue to face. Security reports across the North Central region consistently highlight the concern that violent groups use forest areas as operational bases.
