🔺 Iran’s supreme leader urges dollar phase-out and national unity as economy suffers under US blockade

🔸 Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has called for gradually phasing the US dollar out of Iran’s economy and building a self-reliant “resistance economy” centered on domestic production, in a written message marking Government Week.

🔸 Khamenei said the “main key” to Iran’s economic problems lies in relying increasingly on domestic production, with imports used “properly and wisely” only where local output falls short. He urged the government to tackle inflation, unemployment, and price controls, and to direct investment toward essential sectors.

🔸 He also called for preserving national unity, declaring that “committing any act that harms social cohesion is prohibited,” seemingly warning against renewed public unrest as seen in January.

🔸 The appeals come amid US pressure: Iran’s oil exports have reportedly fallen to near zero, the rial has hit record lows past 2 million to the dollar, and inflation remains above 80 percent year over year. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent this past week launched “Operation Economic Outcast” aimed at completely severing Iran’s economic ties worldwide.

🔸 Khamenei, who took power after his father was killed in US-Israeli strikes, has still not been seen in public since he was reportedly wounded in those attacks six months ago.
