I heartily congratulate Maryam Ibrahim Dan’ Azumi on her remarkable victory at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Emerging victorious in a competition featuring participants from 132 other countries is an extraordinary achievement. Her mastery of the Holy Qur’an, including memorisation, recitation, Tajweed and Tafsir, reflects years of discipline, sacrifice, dedication and an unwavering pursuit of excellence.

Maryam’s success is another powerful reminder of the enormous potential of young Nigerians to compete and excel on the global stage. Even more inspiring is the remarkable example of her family, with her elder sister, Hajara Ibrahim Dan Azumi, also having emerged first in an international Qur’anic competition in Jordan in 2024. Their achievements demonstrate what is possible when talent is nurtured through strong values, education, mentorship and family support.

I congratulate their parents, teachers and mentors whose sacrifices and guidance have contributed immensely to these outstanding accomplishments.

On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, I celebrate Maryam for bringing honour to our country. Over 200 lecturers resigned from Kaduna University over unmet 2025 agreements, says ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University (KASU) chapter, says over 200 lecturers have departed the institution due to poor conditions of service and non-implementation of the 2025 agreement reached with ASUU by the federal government.

According to NAN, Abubakar Abdullahi, chairman of ASUU-KASU, stated this during a press conference on Monday in Kaduna, noting that the mass exodus also includes professors.

A YES TO THIS MAN AS YOUR HUSBAND

As a sister in Islam, these are the things that we should focus on when approving a potential husband: his aqidah, iman, akhlaq, adab, and his capacity to sustain both of your daily living. These are the top priorities. Having the same aqidah is crucial and must be the top priority; seeing iman in him is vital and second; his akhlaq and adab play a great role in your relationship, and his financial capability is also important.

Remember and think about these things:

First of all, it is not important if a man is rich or not; never focus on his financial status. What is important is that he is capable of providing for your daily and basic needs for you and your children. That is what matters most. A stable job or being rich won't guarantee a better life with him in the future. Likewise, being poor doesn't mean you'll have a miserable life with him. Our rizq is in the Hands of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala; He is the one who gives us provisions and blessings, not a "stable job."

“And in the heaven is your provision and whatever you are promised.” (Qur'an 51:22)

Never wish to be rich and have excessive wealth if you fear that you won't be just. Indeed, there is a hadith that says there are only two things one should envy: knowledge that is shared and implemented, and wealth that is spent in charity and other good deeds.

“The Prophet said: Envy is allowed in two cases: a man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously, and a man whom Allah has given wisdom (i.e., religious knowledge) and he acts according to it and teaches it to others.” (Sahih Bukhari)

“And spend [in the way of Allah] from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, ‘My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous.’” (Qur'an 63:10)

It is important to understand that wealth and knowledge are blessings from Allah, and they come with responsibilities. Wealth should be used to help others and support good causes, not just for personal gain. Similarly, knowledge should be shared and used to guide others on the right path.

Secondly, never think that you're too young or that he is too young just because, for instance, he’s 23 and you're turning 24, or whatever age you are right now. As long as both of you are already spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically mature, then say yes. You should take advantage of having a healthy physical body and your youth! Have a child whom you will both raise in accordance with Islam.

Indeed, there’s a hadith that says:

“Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your illness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before your preoccupation, and your life before your death.” (Narrated by Ibn Abbas, reported in Al-Hakim)

Raising a child who will make dua for you after you leave this world or after you pass away is crucial:

“When a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity), knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for them.” (Sahih Muslim)

“And those who believe and whose descendants follow them in faith – We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained.” (Qur'an 52:21)

Thirdly, nothing is certain and permanent in this Dunya except death. If a man proposes to you and he has those qualities, then you should say yes. You cannot guarantee that you'll still live in this world this year or next year, and you can never bring back time. Regret is the only thing you'll be left with.

“Every soul will taste death. And you will only receive your full reward on the Day of Judgment...” (Qur'an 3:185)

Fourthly, think and give your 100% preparation for what is to come when you actually die. Have you prepared your life in Barzakh? Have you prepared your good deeds and worships that can intercede or save you on the Day of Yawmul Qiyamah? Can that man help you with that?

“And fear the Day when you will be returned to Allah. Then every soul will be compensated for what it earned, and they will not be wronged.” (Qur'an 2:281)

And lastly, realize that this world is not our final abode. Think if he can help you prepare and work with you and your family to be among the dwellers in Jannah. So, it is crucial to give your 100% preparation for the akhirah (Barzakh and Yawmul Qiyamah).

“The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing).” (Qur'an 3:185)

“Until, when death comes to one of them, he says, ‘My Lord, send me back that I might do righteousness in that which I left behind.’ No! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them is a Barzakh until the Day they are resurrected.” (Qur'an 23:99-100)

My sisters, be with a man who has the same mission with you in this Dunya (preparing well for the akhirah, performing Hajj and Umrah before leaving this world, raising righteous children, etc.), the same goals for the Ummah (which you both will serve), and the same vision in the akhirah (desiring to see Allah, be among the dwellers of Jannah, be amongst the neighbors of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and see all the Messengers and Prophets of Allah).

“And those who say: ‘Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.’” (Qur'an 25:74)

Ya Rabb, grant us this kind of blessing. Allahumma Ameen.

Whatever truth and benefit is found in this reminder is solely due to Allah's Assistance and Guidance. Any errors are mine alone. Allah knows best, and He is the Only Source of Strength. May Allah protect us, guide us, and grant us the wisdom to follow His commands with sincerity and humility. Allahumma Ameen.

Ya kai matashi,

Ina rubuta maka wannan wasiƙa ne ba domin in zarge ka ba, sai domin in tunatar da kai cewa kai ne ginshiƙin gobe. Abin da ka zama yau shi ne zai taimaka wajen gina ko rusa al’ummar da za mu rayu a cikinta gobe.

Kada ka raina shekarunka. Kada ka ce kai ƙarami ne, domin manyan canje-canje a tarihi sun faru ne ta hannun matasa masu manufa, ilimi, imani da jajircewa.

Ka gyara kanka kafin ka nemi gyara duniya.
Ka fara da sallarka, halinka, maganarka, abokanka, iliminka da yadda kake amfani da lokacinka.

Ya kai matashi, ka sani cewa lokaci shi ne jarinka mafi girma. Idan ka ɓata shi, ba za ka iya dawo da shi ba. Kada ka bar wayar hannu, shafukan sada zumunta da nishaɗin banza su sace maka shekarun da ya kamata ka gina makomarka.

Ka karanta. Ka koyi sana’a. Ka nemi ilimi. Ka koyi fasaha. Ka girmama iyaye. Ka zaɓi abokan kirki. Ka nisanci miyagun ƙwayoyi, zina, shaye-shaye, caca, tashin hankali da duk abin da zai lalata maka rayuwa.

Kada ka bari wani ya yi amfani da fushinka wajen cimma manufarsa.
Kada a yaudare ka da ƙabilanci, siyasa, jita-jita ko ƙiyayya. Ka zama matashi mai tunani; kada ka yarda da duk abin da aka gaya maka sai ka bincika gaskiyarsa.

Ka sani cewa jarumta ba ta cikin faɗa kawai. Jarumin gaske shi ne wanda yake iya sarrafa fushinsa, ya iya gafartawa, ya iya cewa “na yi kuskure”, ya iya neman ilimi, ya iya aiki domin al’umma, kuma ya iya tsayawa kan gaskiya.

Idan kana son canza al’umma, ka fara da kanka.
Idan kana son zaman lafiya, ka zama mai zaman lafiya.
Idan kana son gaskiya, ka zama mai gaskiya.
Idan kana son ci gaba, ka fara da ƙoƙarin kanka.
Idan kana son a girmama ka, ka girmama wasu.

Ya kai matashi, kada ka kwatanta rayuwarka da ta wasu. Kada ka yi baƙin ciki saboda wani ya samu abin da kai ba ka samu ba. Kowane mutum yana da lokacin da Allah Ya ƙaddara masa. Ka yi aiki, ka yi addu’a, ka yi haƙuri, ka dogara ga Allah.

Kada ka manta da Lahira.
Dukiya za ta ƙare, kyau zai shuɗe, ƙarfi zai ragu, amma ayyukan da ka yi za su kasance tare da kai.

Saboda haka, ka gina rayuwarka a kan imani, ilimi, aiki, kyakkyawan hali da hidimar al’umma.

Ya kai matashi,

Kada ka jira gobe domin ka zama mutumin kirki. Ka fara yau.

Kada ka ce: “Zan tuba idan na tsufa.”
Kada ka ce: “Zan yi karatu daga baya.”
Kada ka ce: “Zan gyara rayuwata nan gaba.”

Domin ba a yi wa kowa alkawarin gobe ba.

Ka yi amfani da ƙarfinka kafin rauni ya zo. Ka yi amfani da lokacinka kafin ya wuce. Ka yi amfani da damar da Allah Ya ba ka kafin ta gushe.

Kai ba kawai matashi ba ne; kai amana ne.

Amanar iyayenka.
Amanar al’ummarka.
Amanar addininka.
Kuma a ƙarshe, za a tambaye ka yadda ka yi amfani da shekarunka da ƙarfinka.

Saboda haka, ka zama matashin da al’umma za ta yi alfahari da shi, iyaye su yi farin ciki da shi, kuma addini ya yi shaida da kyawawan ayyukansa.

Allah Ya shiryar da matasanmu, Ya kare su daga fitintinu, Ya ba su ilimi mai amfani, sana’o’in halal, kyawawan abokai da kyakkyawan ƙarshe.

Ya Allah, ka sanya matasanmu su zama jagororin alheri, ba mabiyan ɓarna ba; masu gina al’umma, ba masu rusa ta ba.

Amin.
