I've written a three-part series of articles about Somaliland's story for the American publication @VozMediaUSA. Below you can read the first part, which has been published today.
Please help share the story so that more people know about the great country of Somaliland.
Thanks to editor @MarioNoyaM for running the story.
Voz Media targets Hispanic audiences in the US, the broader Americas and Spain, hence the reference to Spanish speakers at the start of the text.

💯 agreement with Amb. @TiborPNagyJr. #Somaliland is part of the solution, while the unelected regime of rump #Somalia🇸🇴 is very much at the heart of the problem!
A Somaliland woman says she was assaulted in Turkey for carrying the Somaliland flag.
"They beat me while shouting, 'Death to Israel.' They told me, 'You love Israel, so this is how we'll treat you.' Then they tied my hands, tore up my Somaliland flag, and deported me," she said.

While Hormuz and the Red Sea rattle global markets, African corridors and gateways are quietly becoming the backup plan for the world economy.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐬𝐫𝐚𝐞𝐥-𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 is honoured to launch 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐈𝐬𝐫𝐚𝐞𝐥, an executive series convening African ambassadors and senior diplomats serving in Israel for substantive dialogue on the future of our shared relations.
Our inaugural Leadership Dialogue welcomed representatives from 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐚, 𝐙𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐚, 𝐂𝐨̂𝐭𝐞 𝐝'𝐈𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐫𝐞, 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐢, 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚, 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐳𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐚, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚, in a discussion led by 𝐌𝐫. 𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐦 𝐓𝐚𝐢𝐛, Founder and President of the 𝐓𝐚𝐢𝐛 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 and 𝐈𝐀𝐑𝐈.
One conviction resonated throughout: Africa seeks partners, not donors, long-term engagement over one-off projects, and relationships founded on mutual respect and shared interest.
Drawing on more than three decades across the continent, 𝐌𝐫. 𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐦 𝐓𝐚𝐢𝐛 affirmed that Africa's greatest resource is its people. Lasting development begins with investment in human capital, education, and leadership.
In the months ahead, participants will engage with leading Israeli experts in politics, business, and innovation, culminating in the Africa-Israel Economic Forum 2026.
Diplomacy begins with listening. The conversation has only just begun.

@OIC_OCI@Netanyahu He is a true hero. He is not like other Arab leaders who only talk with their mouths, but his words and actions go hand in hand.
We, Somaliland people stand with @Israel
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met today with the President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the leaders signed a Joint Declaration on strengthening the cooperation between the two states, and delivered statements.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to President of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi: "We are proud, and I am proud that my government is the first government on the planet to recognize Somaliland. We are united by the same belief that freedom, democracy and opportunity are stronger than extremism, terrorism and chaos."
A historic day for Israel-Africa relations, and a proud moment for our Institute.
Today, Our @msf2018 , CEO of the Israel-Africa Relations Institute (IARI), met with 𝐇.𝐄. @Abdirahmanirro 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝, during his landmark first visit to Israel, held at the President's Residence in Jerusalem.
This is more than a diplomatic milestone. It is a moment that captures the spirit of everything our Institute works toward: building bridges between Israel and Africa rooted in mutual respect, shared opportunity, and genuine partnership.
Since Israel became the first country to recognize Somaliland in December 2025, the relationship between the two nations has moved at a remarkable pace; from the appointment of ambassadors on both sides, to today's visit, with an embassy opening in Jerusalem set to follow. For a nation that has waited 35 years for international recognition, President Irro's words on arrival said it all: "𝐈𝐬𝐫𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭."
As Israel and Somaliland move from declarations to practical cooperation, in technology, agriculture, water innovation, and security, our Institute remains committed to fostering exactly these kinds of relationships: ones that translate diplomatic breakthroughs into lasting, people-centered partnerships across the continent.
A new chapter indeed, and we're honored to be part of the conversation.
