The reason Mr Mathew Bagoza was kidnapped was not because he stole money, nor because his boss, Odrek Rwabwogo, stole or diverted PACEID funds. The quarrel is considerably more dynastic than that. Muhoozi is frightened that his family rival, Rwabwogo, a man who acquired political proximity through that peculiar Ugandan institution of sexually transmitted power, has accumulated enough cash to finance subversive activities and perhaps purchase himself a respectable seat at the family succession table.

So Rwamabondo, Bagonza, a gentleman blessed with a belly so magnificent that it appears to arrive several seconds before its owner, is being caned in the basement to reveal where Rwabwogo keeps the money and what exactly they are planning. Apparently, in the Museveni succession economy, even your brother-in-law's bank balance can become a national-security threat.

Unlike the mabaati thief Anitah Among, whose purposeless splendour has repeatedly betrayed her despite international sanctions, this Nyabushozi ngoha, Rwabwogo, understands that serious money need not walk around Kampala ringing a bell. He stashes away the loot in accounts whose whereabouts are not immediately obvious and is scheming to convert money into the most expensive commodity in Uganda: presidential inheritance. Among wears her money like Christmas decorations/makeup. Rwabwogo, apparently, prefers his to behave like a well-trained intelligence officer/ghost.

Muhoozi's predicament is different. He is stuck where he is, and he likes being stuck there. His present military position is not merely employment but an armour as well. The moment he is removed, he becomes vulnerable because there are angry officers inside the army who regard him as a batshit-brained son of a bitch who inherited military stars with the velocity other officers acquire grey hair.

Remember when the army was placed on Standby Class One in June 2022? Peter Elwelu, then Deputy CDF, had faced insubordination from Muhoozi, who was Commander Land Forces. The confrontation escalated until Elwelu moved to arrest Muhoozi over insubordination, drunkenness and oversleeping. Muhoozi, suddenly discovering that military discipline was no longer an amusing theoretical concept imposed on other people, rang the SFC Commando Unit commander in Kiruhura, Asaph Mweteise Nyakairu. The unit mobilised, intervened and overpowered Elwelu's attempt.

The situation became so serious that Charity Bainababo telephoned despot Museveni, who returned and summoned the two arseholes to Ntungamo to settle the confrontation. Elwelu would later be removed from his position and eventually retired where he is now trying harder to eliminate a potbelly he spent years building. Museveni, as usual, protected his curmudgeonly son. It is one of the great conveniences of military discipline when the Commander-in-Chief is also Daddy.

That episode matters because Muhoozi understands the architecture of his own security. The uniform is not merely clothing, the rank is not merely decoration, and command is not merely a job. They keep enemies saluting. Remove command and some of those salutes may suddenly remember the grievances attached to the hands performing them.

Now insert Rwabwogo into that family arithmetic. He has proximity to Museveni, money, ambition and his own networks. In an ordinary family, a wealthy brother-in-law is useful at weddings and emergencies. In a dynasty waiting for an inheritance, a wealthy brother-in-law with political ambitions begins to look like a coup conducted through a bank account.

That is why Bagoza matters as the basement is asking about Rwabwogo. Where is the money? How much is there? Who is involved? What are they planning? Apparently, even before Museveni's chair becomes vacant, the prospective inheritors are already measuring the curtains.

I could be cynical, but it remains my principle that whenever I encounter any of our so-called billionaires or city tycoons or anyone constructing these high-rise apartment blocks or driving these monster automobiles, I conclude that I am looking at a thief.

The first instinct is that this money is part of the Shs 9 -10 trillion Uganda loses to corruption annually. The second is that these are commission agents and board members of foreign corporations milking Uganda for sport.

And the third are these tenderpreneurswho have the front-row being gifted with any government tender announced, and often, eat all the money. Can you imagine a man – of course, with all associates – ate 294 train wagons?!

UPDATE: Following last week’s site visit to Entebbe International Airport, the COSASE committee chairperson Muwada Nkunyingi directed officials from Uganda Airlines to appear before the committee on Monday, August 24, 2026, to provide additional information and respond to findings from the visit. However, Uganda Airlines officials did not appear before the committee today and have not provided an explanation for their absence. The no-show has raised concerns among committee members, who have advised the chairperson to take action against the officials.

I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding the current state of management at St. Peter’s Naalya. A school once respected for being student-centered has completely compromised its standards of care. Specifically, I am appalled by the decision to evict female candidate students from their dormitories at 3:00 AM on their day of departure, right after completing their mock exams. Forcing young girls out into the cold during the early hours of the morning is unacceptable and raises serious safety concerns.

Furthermore, this follows an ongoing issue where students were forced to sleep outside due to a heavy mosquito infestation that the school has failed to fumigate.Given the continuous increase in school fees and your stringent payment mechanisms, parents expect a safe, hygienic, and humane environment for their children.

The school must do better and urgently address these welfare failures
