#MHDay2026 is coming. Break the stigma. Demand access to menstrual products, education, and sanitation for all. Together, we create a #PeriodFriendlyWorld.
Through the 100% WASH Project, funded by the well:fair Foundation, #Amref is creating safe, dignified spaces for school-going girls by investing in reliable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities. With access to clean water and proper sanitation, girls can confidently manage their menstruation at school, receive training on safe use and disposal of pads, and no longer lose valuable learning time. The result is simple but powerful: improved hygiene, restored dignity, and better academic performance because no girl should have to choose between her education and her period.

Nurses account for more than 110,000 health workers representing nearly 58% of Kenya’s healthcare workforce, as noted by @psmuthoni , reflecting the scale of their contribution to healthcare delivery across the country.
Strengthening the nursing workforce through investment in training, leadership development, technology and health systems remains essential to improving health outcomes and advancing Universal Health Coverage.
This #InternationalNursesDay, we recognise the impact of #Nurses and the importance of building a healthcare system that continues to support and empower the people at the centre of care delivery.

#OneMillionMoreMidwives is not just a slogan; it is a systems imperative. #Midwives can provide up to 90% of essential maternal, newborn, and reproductive health services. Expanding this workforce is the fastest and most cost-effective way to reduce preventable deaths and achieve universal health coverage. The question is no longer if, but how quickly we can act.

Health workers are central to Kenya’s immunisation success. Through initiatives such as the Uzazi Salama project, these frontline professionals educate families, administer vaccines, address misconceptions, and ensure that communities are protected. Their efforts close access gaps and increase immunisation coverage. Without their commitment, millions would remain at risk, and the goal of reaching every child with life-saving vaccines would be unattainable.

Diseases such as measles, polio, tetanus, and diphtheria are preventable, yet they continue to cause deaths where vaccination coverage is low.
#Immunisation protects individuals and builds herd immunity, reducing disease spread in communities.
When vaccination rates fall, outbreaks re-emerge. The evidence is clear: prevention is always better and more cost-effective than treatment.

It's #WorldMalariaDay2026: Malaria remains a significant public health threat in Kenya, despite ongoing progress in prevention, testing, and treatment. In the past year, Kenya reported over 3.1 million confirmed cases, with nearly one million detected at the community level, demonstrating improved service reach. Testing coverage is strong, with 89.3% of suspected cases tested, yet the overall disease burden remains high. Malaria incidence declined from 104 cases per 1,000 people in 2023 to 72 per 1,000 in 2025, marking important progress. However, transmission persists in many areas, highlighting the need to intensify efforts. Pregnant women and children under five remain especially vulnerable, as malaria can quickly become severe and life-threatening in these groups.

Investing in #healthworkers is one of the smartest decisions any government can make. For every $1 invested, the return is $19, making it not just a moral imperative, but a powerful economic opportunity.
Health workers are the backbone of every functional health system. They connect communities to care, close access gaps, and keep systems running, even in the toughest conditions. When crises strike, they are the first to respond, protecting lives, containing outbreaks, and safeguarding communities.
Without health workers, there is no #health system.

Health workers are the unsung heroes of our communities. Their dedication goes beyond passion. They are committed to showing up for the people who need them most. This #HWWeek2026, we celebrate extraordinary individuals like Emily Nyambura, a Clinical Officer, Siaya County, who walks every step of the journey alongside her patients, offering not just medical care but hope, dignity, and unwavering support, especially for those diagnosed with TB. Their work is a powerful reminder that #healthforall is not just a goal; it is a promise kept.

Africa faces a critical shortage of skilled health workers, and closing that gap requires bold, sustained investment in training and workforce development. Many #health workers endure unsafe conditions, inadequate pay, and limited career growth opportunities. This drives talent away and widens the care gap for millions of patients. Addressing these systemic challenges is essential to building a resilient health system that works for everyone. @AmrefUniversity leads the way by offering structured pathways from certificates and diplomas to bachelor’s and master’s degrees. These programmes equip health workers with the skills and confidence to deliver quality, essential health services across Africa.

In Kajiado South, where some families walk over three hours to reach the nearest health facility, access to care is a daily struggle. Medical outreaches enable communities to receive essential health services, like immunisation, maternal care, disease screening, and diagnostics, right where they live, restoring dignity and saving lives.

In many parts of Kajiado South, accessing health care has meant walking up to three hours just to reach the nearest facility. However, that’s changing through a 12-day medical outreach led in partnership with @KajiadoGov, @Amref_Kenya, @AfricaCDC, @entepesikenya, @RockyVistaU, and @HandsForHealth.
As a result, communities are now receiving basic health services where they live, including screening for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and immunisation for children. Other services offered during the medical outreach include antenatal check-ups, cervical cancer screening, HIV testing, and on-site diagnostics.
Join us today through June 27, 2025, at various locations in Kajiado South for the rest of the week.
Every blood pressure check, every vaccine, every conversation under a tree brings Kenya closer to Universal Health Coverage, one household at a time.
#AmrefLastMileHealth #SavingLivesAndLivelihoods #Amref4PHC
Bringing quality healthcare to underserved communities is essential for advancing universal health coverage (UHC). For many in remote areas, accessing basic health services remains a challenge. Free medical camps are addressing this by providing critical services like diagnosis, immunization, antenatal care, and cervical cancer screening directly in Kajiado South.
Led by the @KajiadoGov and supported by partners such as @Amref_Kenya and @MastercardFdn, this initiative showcases the power of collaboration in strengthening health systems. By focusing on reaching the last mile, we ensure that no one is left behind, enhancing accessibility and promoting health equity within the community. #Amref4PHC @AfricaCDC@entepesikenya@RockyVistaU@MaryMathenge4@martinmuchangi@MOH_Kenya@MOH_DHP@MusyokaKenn
Menstrual hygiene is not just a health issue, it is about dignity, education and equality. In Sub-Saharan Africa, an estimated 1 in 10 girls miss school during their periods due to a lack of resources.
At Amref, we are working to change this. Through our WASH and SRHR programmes, we are empowering thousands of girls across the continent with access to menstrual hygiene resources.
Watch how we are making menstruation safe, dignified and stigma-free!
