Journalists are taking part in a National Media Training on Early Warning Systems, hosted by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and @SSRCS, supported by @IFRC and @RodeKruis.

Aligned with the Sendai Framework and Early Warnings for All initiative, the training strengthens risk-informed journalism, community engagement, multi-stakeholder collaboration and use of the Common Alerting Protocol.

Sessions feature SSRC, IFRC, @UNDRR_Africa and @ITUAfrica, highlighting the complementary roles of humanitarian partners in protecting communities through timely, accurate and inclusive early warning information.

In late March 2026, heavy rains and strong winds triggered severe flooding and landslides in #Tanzania’s Mbeya region, affecting communities in Rungwe and Kyela districts.
With support from the @IFRC_DREF, Tanzania Red Cross (@trcs1962) teams have reached 523 households with shelter support, clean water, health and sanitation assistance, helping address urgent needs among the worst affected communities.

Heavy rains and strong winds triggered severe flooding and landslides in #Tanzania’s Mbeya region, affecting communities in Rungwe and Kyela districts at the start of the 2026 Masika season.
With support from the @IFRC_DREF, the Tanzania Red Cross Society (@trcs1962) will assist 523 households (2,615 people) with urgent support in health, WASH, shelter, protection, gender and inclusion, and community engagement.
As climate-related risks continue to affect communities across East Africa, early and flexible humanitarian funding remains critical to helping people recover with dignity.

Looming floods, all eyes shifts to South Sudan as lake Victoria water level hits record high. Early warning saves lives.

The toll of El Niño-induced rains and flooding coupled with Cyclone #Hidaya across Eastern Africa is staggering.

Over 600,000 people have been affected in Kenya and Tanzania. @KenyaRedCross and @trcs1962 continue to support affected families working with @IFRC.

Tropical Cyclone Hidaya is approaching the coast of Tanzania with expected winds and possible flooding rains.

Red Cross teams in the regions expected to be affected have started mobilizing volunteers.

Teams from Tanzania Red Cross @trcs1962 are working with local communities and government spreading early warning messages and preparedness activities.

Early warning early action is key at this time.
