Even as floods impact parts of the country, the drought crisis continues to push millions of Kenyans to the brink.
More than 3.3 million people need food assistance, 1.5 million urgently need water, and over 200,000 children are battling severe acute malnutrition. Communities across arid and semi-arid counties are facing a deepening humanitarian crisis.
Kenya Red Cross is on the on the ground providing water, food assistance, nutrition support and health services but the scale of need continues to grow.
The drought is worsening. Urgent support is needed to save lives and protect livelihoods.
This photo says a lot.
@KenyaRedCross volunteers from @Krcs_NRbBranch engaged in search and rescue in the dead of the night. Searching for those marooned by waters, the injured and dead.
It was cold and wet.
They could be with their families enjoying the safety and comfort of their homes. But they chose to serve their communities at the hour of need.
Right now they are on standby. Away from their families. Ready to serve in all parts of the country.
To the volunteers of @KenyaRedCross , we are eternally grateful for your service. Serve one another.
Always There.
Thank you for having me!
We know climatic disasters will continue to happen. Investment is necessary in building the right systems that are human centric, having the right partnerships in place and acting early enough to prevent suffering.
@KenyaRedCross
“We can’t prevent droughts or floods. The extremes are becoming a norm for us.
What we can do is work towards preventing suffering through mitigation and preparedness, using early warning and early action, climate forecasts and trends to anticipate when disasters will strike.
This is what impact-based forecasting is about: investing in preparedness before disasters happen.”
@SafiaV, Executive Director, ICHA, LIVE now on @CapitalFMKenya. Tune in.
Tonight, we celebrated a living legend. Our longest-serving volunteer alive, Dolat Karim, received the A. A. Molu Lifetime Achievement Award, a rare honour reserved for those who have overcome extraordinary challenges in their volunteer service.
She was also presented with her book, The Power of Philanthropy, a powerful reflection of her 52-year journey of service and compassion.
At 83, Dolat has stood at the forefront of major crises, championed prison reform and supported some of the most vulnerable members of our communities.

“Nearly 2 million people in Northern Kenya are hungry due to drought. Families in Western Kenya are displaced by rising lakes. In Marakwet, loved ones are still missing after the landslides, and our volunteers are still out there, bringing hope and closure. This is what our volunteers do.” Dr. Ahmed Idris, Secretary General, Kenya Red Cross, paying tribute to our volunteers

This week, we hosted the 3rd Global Social Entrepreneurship Meetup in Mombasa, a bold step forward in reimagining how we build resilience through social enterprise.
Co-led by the Kenya Red Cross, ICHA, @IFRC, RedPreneur and partners like the Austrian Red Cross, the event brought together changemakers from across Africa and beyond.
We marked key milestones, 60 years of Kenya Red Cross and 5 years of @IOME254, while sparking fresh conversations on financial independence and innovation within the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.
Culture and religion shape how communities respond to health crises.

As we close September, a month dedicated to honouring the journey of recovery from alcohol and substance use, we shine a light on the Kenya Red Cross Rehab Centre in Lamu.
Here, we provide a supportive environment for healing, while the @IOME254 Innovation Lab, run by @ICHA_KRC, ensures individuals gain practical skills during their rehabilitation.
This combination of care and empowerment allows those in recovery to re-enter society with confidence and purpose.
Thanks to the @ICRC Virtual Reality Unit for the insightful demo with us & @KenyaRedCross teams! It was exciting to see how #VR can enhance #RescueOps, #ClimateCrisis response, and more.
