One leader in power since 1999. Five peaceful transfers next door.
Now even Djibouti’s opposition is saying it openly.
Democracy in the Horn has an address. It’s Somaliland.

President Hassan Sheikh’s visit to Las Anod, a city in Somaliland, is a provocation that risks manufactured conflict and deliberate instability.
Funds provided to Somalia to fight Al-Shabaab must not be diverted toward destabilizing Somaliland, the Horn of Africa’s only functioning democracy and its lone beacon of stability. Misusing counter-terrorism funding for political escalation is reckless and unacceptable.

@stevenburg The formal recognition of the Republic of Somaliland serves as a vital cornerstone for stability in the Horn of Africa, offering a proven model of democratic governance and maritime security that benefits both East Africa and the global community.
For anyone who forgot, this is what the African Union itself determined regarding Somaliland:
“The fact that the union between Somaliland and Somalia was never ratified and also malfunctioned when it went into action from 1960 to 1990, makes Somaliland's search for recognition historically unique and self-justified in African political history.”
I announced today the official recognition of the Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state.
Together with Foreign Minister Sa'ar and the President of the Republic of Somaliland, we signed a joint and mutual declaration.
This declaration is in the spirit of the Abraham Accords, signed at the initiative of President Trump.
I congratulated the President of Somaliland, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdallah, and praised his leadership and commitment to promoting stability and peace. I invited the President to pay an official visit to Israel.
The President thanked me for this historic declaration and expressed appreciation for my achievements in fighting terrorism and advancing regional peace.
I thank Foreign Minister Sa’ar, the Head of Mossad David Barnea and the Mossad, for their contribution to today’s development, and I wish the people of Somaliland success, prosperity, and freedom.
The State of Israel plans to immediately expand its relations with the Republic of Somaliland through extensive cooperation in the fields of agriculture, health, technology, and economy.
This declaration is in the spirit of the Abraham Accords, signed at the initiative of President Trump.
Prime Minister Netanyahu congratulated the President of Somaliland, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdallah, and praised his leadership and commitment to promoting stability and peace.
Official: Congratulations to the Republic of Somaliland on its recognition by Isra. After a long wait, this important opportunity has finally arrived. Congratulations once again to the people of Somaliland.

I strongly condemn the unacceptable treatment of former President H.E. @musebiihi at Egal International Airport. Blocking his vehicle, forcing him to walk into the airport, and denying him VIP access endangered his safety and security. This is an abuse of power that undermines national stability, institutional dignity, and social cohesion.
The Somaliland Police confirmed arresting Jama Osman Abdilahi, an elected member of Hargeisa Local Council, for “mobilising and inciting the public.” According to the law, a councillor cannot be arrested without the Council stripping their immunity unless caught red-handed. 1/2
We warmly welcome and extend our sincere thanks to Senator Ted Cruz @SenTedCruz for his principled call for U.S. recognition of Somaliland, a nation that has upheld peace, democracy, and partnership for more than three decades.
This is more than encouragement; it is a clear affirmation that Somaliland has influential friends and strategic partners in the United States Senate.
Somaliland’s commitment to security cooperation and economic growth aligns directly with U.S. strategic interests in the Horn of Africa.
Recognition is not a gift; it is an acknowledgment of a reality that already exists. The United States now has a historic opportunity to lead by example.

According to Bloomberg, the Republic of Somaliland has offered the United States the opportunity to construct a naval base on its coast near the Bab al-Mandab Strait between the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, as well as a critical rare earth-minerals deal, in exchange for its recognition as an independent country from Somalia. This comes amidst a push by the President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, for closer relations with Washington and the Trump Administration, who currently consider Somaliland as part of Somalia.

Qatar has consistently expressed strong opposition to the Republic of Somaliland’s sovereignty and its development agenda - most recently objecting to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Ethiopia and the Republic of Somaliland. Qatar’s position remains aligned with Mogadishu and reflects its broader regional interests and investments across the Horn of Africa.
In light of this, if the President of the Republic of Somaliland is currently engaging in diplomatic maneuvers to protect our national interests and assert our sovereign rights, we strongly support him. As citizens, stakeholders, and patriots, we stand united behind him - ready to uphold Somaliland’s dignity and rightful place in the region.
However, if the direction shifts toward short-term financial gains at the expense of long-term national integrity, we must collectively remind ourselves: Somaliland’s peace and state-building achievements were not donor-driven. They were the result of financial independence, grassroots determination, and an unshakable commitment to self-reliance. This is what distinguishes Somaliland from Somalia - and it must be preserved at all costs.
His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi, the President of the Republic of Somaliland had a productive meeting with His Excellency @WilliamsRuto , the President of the Republic of Kenya.
Somaliland celebrating all night for the restoration of its independence
The songs are deep and poetic:
"Oh flag, the world has refused to acknowledge you but they can't hide the sun"
It isn't just a celebration
It's the renewal of our national oauth
