The @UN Assistant Secretary-General and @UNDP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, @kanniwignaraja met with Prime Minister of #SriLanka @Dr_HariniA yesterday as a part of her 2-day mission in the country.

The discussion focused on the road ahead following #CycloneDitwah where @UNDP served as the technical lead, along with UNDPs key thematic areas including Climate & Energy, Governance, Digital Transformation & Future Skills, and GoSL's priority in pushing these forward.

Ms. Wignaraja was accompanied by @UNDP Resident Representative #lka @AzusaKubota, Deputy Res Rep @mtenundp and Team Leader-Strategic Engagement, Digital and Innovation Team @YasasThalagala.

An informal briefing for the private sector, co‑hosted by @AzusaKubota of @UNDP Sri Lanka and @vinodhird of @Hirdaramani_Grp, introduced UNDP’s Giving Facility for Flood Relief & Livelihoods Support.

It brought together 35+ private sector representatives representing the apparel, banking, retail, tourism and agriculture sectors to reflect on the impacts of #CycloneDitwah, drawing on insights from the RAPIDA assessments jointly carried out by @UNDP and Government of Sri Lanka.

The discussion also highlighted the need for a rapid, scalable package of support to crisis‑affected communities in full alignment with and support of government priorities.

One thing that stuck with me from my visit to the East is the enthusiasm, vibrancy & commitment of #women entrepreneurs. But they continue to face systemic challenges - getting required certification, access to reliable finance to scale up & stigma. Hat off to their perseverance!
