My son is doing less and less work at school. He knows what to do, can verbalise it but stops at the writing and reading. His TA thinks it is behavioural!! When I ask my son he says I write slow because it's not fun. He is 8. #parentadvice #autism #adhd #pdaautism #failingourkids

@LynnJFranklin They are just making it more tough for the parents. I don't envy them in the morning, getting him out of the house, just for him to be humiliated again at school. Poor child. I'm going to speak to the head ASAP.

Today I witnessed a child being dragged to class by two teachers because he was anxious about school. He got himself in such a state that he was refusing to budge. This can't be right. I can't stop thinking about it, it upsets me so much... #anxietyinchildren #AutismAwareness

@SarahSpoorUK @Quinonostante I would if my son would listen to me... I can't even get him to do his homework. When he's home he just wants to play and be himself. I guess that's the aftermath of a day at school!

@Sarah_ElizaM I had it with my son a few months back. He was refusing to leave the house and I refused to force him. School said - 'all you have to do is get him here and we'll DEAL with him once he's in school'!!! He didn't need dealing with, he needed understanding.

@JuditeeS I've just started a new job working with children in a home. I did CALM restraint training and we were told only to use it if a child is endangering himself/others, about to commit crime/about to damage property. No mention about using it to make a child act against his will.

@Myheadisashed1 The #SEN lead with a TA should have taken over & should have looked into why the child was acting in the way they did. You can make a complaint to the head as an observer & also ask what provisions are available for children in distress under safeguarding procedures of the school

@KekezzaReece I spoke to the Dad and he said he's apparently fine once he's in class!!! On the surface maybe. My son has Autism and puts a lot of effort into masking his feelings, but when he comes home he explodes. The teachers need to be trained to identify autism rumbling! #AutismAwareness

@SaraJPeden It actually is, but I'm trying to be impartial. As a Mum of an SEN child, it impacted me more. I would not stand for this, but it makes you wonder what goes on behind closed doors, if they can do that in front of a dozen people in the reception area.
