@t_foster17@bonstewart Many employers now days hire people to scope through employees and potential candidates social media pages. As educators, it’s important to be a role model for the community and for our students. #unboundeq
@SimonTesloth The same thing happens to me. I’ve noticed that sometimes adds will pop up, that are something that I had recently talked about with someone else. Makes me wonder if my phone listens to my conversations? #unboundeq
@PapacDaniela It’s even worse that these programs were supposedly designed to prevent prejudice, however they are making it even worse. Unfortunately algorithms only amplify the prejudices that already exist in our society. #unboundeq
@rhythmalgorithm @bonstewart@SimonTesloth I find it interesting how Facebook and Instagram grip you with explore feeds that play video after video. It’s easy to spend an hour or more just watching pointless videos. And it always seems to be difficult stop. #unboundeq
@a_schlichther @bonstewart I’ve never heard of DuckDuckGo. I have heard recently though that Google might be forced to break up into smaller companies due to it having a monopoly of the internet. If Google is dismantled, it will interesting to see how the internet changes. #unboundeq
@Viniqs_@bonstewart I have noticed the same thing! Seems like I’m always watching the same video or looking at the same add over and over again! I wish the algorithm was able to balance how often it shows you something. #unboundeq
@bonstewart A4: Those who have written these algorithms know what the issues are. They don’t change them because they benefit those in power. These people must look beyond their interests, to serve the public. Remove gender/race from the algorithm. Base it on character/interest. #unboundeq
@bonstewart A3: Amazon is classic for suggesting things it thinks I may want. It thinks that if it shows me something similar to what I have bought in the past, I may want to purchase it. Sadly sometimes these adds work and I find myself buying something that I hadn’t intended to. #unboudeq
@bonstewart This talk opened my eyes. I always figured access to tech was where the issue was, never considering that it’s much deeper than that. I was surprised when Dr. Benjamin explained that the algorithm for inclusion discriminates against women and other minorities. #unboundeq
@bonstewart For me, I see algorithmes in media/news videos and articles. The more left-wing or right-wing media that you watch or read, the more that is all that the algorithm recommends. I find it challenging that this algorithm doesn’t support opposing perspectives. #unboundeq
