When communities are informed and empowered, lasting environmental change becomes possible.
We recently hosted a two-day Environmental Justice Programme in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, bringing together community leaders and young people from ten coastal communities to raise awareness and strengthen advocacy around climate justice and environmental rights.
The programme kicked off with a stakeholders’ dialogue, where traditional rulers, women leaders, and youth representatives came together to share the environmental challenges affecting their communities, from changing landscapes to increasing pressure on natural resources.
More importantly, the dialogue explored how communities can actively participate in safeguarding the environment while protecting their rights.
The conversation created an important space for communities to share their experiences, learn from one another and identify practical solutions for environmental protection.

⚡️On Monday, the team was warmly received by Alh. Sambo Shehu Idris, Sarkin Kudu Zaria (Zaria South District Head), who pledged the full support of the Emirate towards the project’s success.
🌱The visit culminated in a remarkable audience yesterday with His Highness, Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, the Emir of Zazzau, who not only expressed delight at the project, but also directed his council members to identify strategic locations for planting of trees across the emirate
🎉A major highlight of the visit was the conferment of the honorary title “Climate Ambassador” on His Highness — a powerful recognition of his commitment to climate stewardship and resilience.

Wildlife crime in Nigeria is on the rise but only few cases get to court.
Our report digs into legal frameworks that can strengthen 🇳🇬’s fight against wildlife crime. 🔗https://t.co/QUlrcVanVd

Nature conservation and sustainability are not just about protecting forests, they are also about giving people the power to thrive.
Through the NCF/NABU project, we’re creating economic opportunities in communities facing tough economic realities by creating green jobs that protect nature and provide sustainable livelihoods.
One example of these green jobs is our Eco Guards. We have trained 50 local forest rangers who now earn a stable income while protecting forests and wildlife.
This is more than just providing income; it offers children the chance to stay in school, families the means to put food on the table, and communities the strength to grow and thrive.
