The new events commit went out in the early morning hours including some minor utility lib updates. The rest of the events now being used will be going in tonight and will be integrated into the existing system. Allowing more complex handling of connection, request, server, and client events crucial for development of any UW App. Various security and realtime mechanisms are dependent upon this. It enables UW Apps like live chat to show realtime status indicators and the like.
More set for tonight/early morning hours. The remaining features will be making their way in to enable the DIS the first major component for UW and Viat.
PSA: Viat, UW, Universal.Web, UniversalWeb, and other similar variations will be reserved domains within the UW Domain Information Service meaning they can’t exactly be purchased at current. There will be a short period where we will contact some entities that may be interested in reserving trademark domains and offer them a grace period otherwise they will be able to be acquired at the same rate as any other domain a few bucks most likely 1$.
Other domains are still expected to be announced as reserved but are either directly related to core systems like block validators and domain related facilities. Still trademark related domains might be handled adhoc however once someone has it it’s theirs and we won’t initially intervene you are the effective owner until a legal mandate is seen and or you reach an agreement/settlement whatever it may be with said entity. For example if Sony is made someone got uw://Sony.com before them they first must contact the owner they could reach out to make us aware of the process but they first must conduct a good faith attempt at resolving with the owner. If not and or the ask is seen as unreasonable we will try to either mediate or start a formal requisition process of a legally owned trademark. Much the same as domains today except with ridiculous sluggish bureaucracy that we see today. It will be a faster process in comparison to what we see today.
These rules will be codified generally but because of the young nature of the UW it will be highly subject to change.
I expect this will be the next major item we’ll be dealing with once the domain shop opens up. Plus NFT support is going to be part of it.
Commits set for tomorrow will include a new server load balancer to help scale any app out of the box with multithreading support.
Works like this say you have 8 cores on an ARM CPU. You see 8 worker threads and 1 master thread which will be the load balancer. The 1 Master threat listens on the main port for the app and takes in all the requests does some quick packet work to get the connection id. Then based off the connection ID it redirects to a specific worker. This is the best possible setup for scaling connections with little work and as lightweight as possible. There also exists the ability to have a separate encryption key for connection ID load balancers which is ideal for security and specifically privacy minded setups.
It has a very unique setup compared to HTTP where we often see cookies and headers and other quite frankly silly mechanisms that only exist to track connections because the protocol wasn’t designed initially with this in mind and this has many short comings.
The benefit of the entire UW’s individual components is that it’s built with each other component in mind, along with current Web needs/features, and lastly all the lessons learned for the last 30 years of the Web.
Commits set for tomorrow a lot of rounding off existing features with prep for the last major component of the protocol being reliability. Then the bigger systems will be thrown together ontop of it and it’ll keep building up like a snowball from there. The current system would be the third version. However, there is already a V4 being planned that would happen overtime to the protocol but wouldn’t affect high abstraction layers so the code at the higher levels would remain the same.
The main difference between WWW’s DNS and the UW’s DIS is: DNS takes a WWW domain and returns an IP. DIS takes a UW domain and returns a certificate so you can trust the response after you verify the certificate. The DIS also can take more complex domains like single word domains and emoji domains.
@farokh Had 2 of these every breakfast when I was there. Sometimes bringing it seaside and have a view. Damnnn to me the texture of the crust if done right is mind blowing
New feature heading up in next set of commits. Modernized URLs with fully structured binary supported URL parameters. A major difference between #UniversalWeb URLs & #WWW/#HTTP URLs.
This is a major part of the next few commits heading out that support this new URL format/feature. From first class emoji support to structured URL parameters the #UW is an evolutionary re-imagining of the Web & its many components.

The new version of UDSP going up is the first major corner stone for the entire network and will lead to exponential code & network growth when these remaining features are in. It’s becoming more and more capable with each commit. New features become focused more on ease of use and are higher abstractions above the core code that makes the magic happen.
