Israel’s God did not remain stationary in a temple, but rather traveled with the people throughout their desert sojourn. https://t.co/m0C14Gs2Ak via @americamag
Republican demands are so extreme that if passed they would be the most severe immigration restriction since the 1920s racial quota laws. Mass deportations & gutting the asylum system not only betray our values, but create more chaos at the border. This is the wrong direction.
@nayna_gupta@VP Congratulations! Your mom has raised an amazing daughter who advocates for justice for all, particularly immigrants. I am honored to work with her at NIJC! I look forward to meeting your mom.
Congratulations to this woman from Central America & her children on their big asylum win! We're happy to see them move forward with their lives, free from harm & the threat of deportation. They're pictured here with their NIJC legal team Andrea, Brittany, and Lisa! 🎉
When @DHSgov started forcing asylum seekers through rushed processing in CBP custody they promised there would at least be access to counsel. There isn't, and the admin never intended there to be. This AM from the AP @elliotspagat: https://t.co/VpLuGGde7c
.@NIJC ED @NIJCmccarthy & I are in Brownsville after witnessing the new asylum ban in effect for people in Matamoros waiting - but still unable - to ask for asylum, a right guaranteed them by US law. We saw the dangers & anti-Black racism they endure. The US must rescind the ban.
Thank you for your support! You have defended and brought hope to thousands of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. As you celebrate, we wish you happy holidays and a wonderful new year!
Justice Sotomayor reminds us SCOTUS has found in a "legion" of cases that DHS has broad discretion to decide whether to begin or continue removal cases. Provisions of law that say DHS "shall" take custody don't interfere w/ that. @NIJC amicus on this 👇 3/ https://t.co/7PQ4SZLMxJ
This AM: SCOTUS arguments in US v TX. Q = can DHS exercise prosecutorial discretion? To kick off this thread - from @NIJC archives, an evidence-based description of why La and Tx's standing argument (that immigrants harm communities) is racist (& hogwash). https://t.co/pMxDS9DkhJ
We are grateful to @JoaquinCastrotx who sponsors this briefing. Congressman Castro is leading advocacy urging the Biden administration to immediately investigate and remedy the pervasive abuses facing those in ICE detention with mental illness. We urge other Members to join him.
It's been quite a year but we're so proud of all the ways that together with our supporters & partners we came together to defend #HumanRights! https://t.co/GHk5A9fYzD 1/2
Powerful & inspiring. @AmericaFerrera & @sunny on the right to seek asylum & how @POTUS must #EndMPP & #EndTitle42:
➡️This is about who we are as a country
➡️You can't make an inhumane policy humane"
➡️Don't send people back to a country where they are going to be persecuted
We cannot forget the harrowing circumstances that mothers, fathers, and children suffered under Trump family separation policies. NIJC responds to @POTUS comments on settlement negotiations for victims of family separation: https://t.co/mow1rReyof
This month we represented a permanent resident named Teddy Birhanu in petitioning SCOTUS for a review of rules that led to his deportation to Ethiopia after he was arrested while in a mental health crisis. Lawyer Keren Zwick shares his story here: https://t.co/MiyrcI2O66 1/
WATCH: NIJC's @heidiraltman will testify before #HJC about abusive immigration jails & why we must end detention. #DefundHate https://t.co/VU0vnt144V
