"I leave the transit system in the strongest position it has ever been in and proud of a career spent connecting people to opportunity. I'm grateful beyond words, and I can't wait to see what NITA accomplishes next.” – Leanne Redden
After more than 20 years at the agency, including 12 as Executive Director, Leanne Redden is retiring as RTA transitions to NITA. https://t.co/6BLZM4OADp
During her time leading the RTA, Leanne secured historic transit funding and helped lay the groundwork for the NITA Act.
The Northern Illinois Transit Authority was created to bring greater coordination and accountability to the CTA, Metra, and Pace. https://t.co/ieWA1FAeNG
Illinois is one of the few US states that has faced the transit funding crisis and found the courage to address it. The new Chicago-area regional agency will ensure that transit investments are optimized for the whole region. A great day.

Excited for the next chapter of regional transportation with @NITA_Chicago!
Like tens of thousands of students today, the CTA was my school bus, and I know firsthand how important reliable public transit is to connecting Chicagoans to school, work, and opportunity.
As Chicagoland transit faced a fiscal cliff last year, my constituents were clear: we need significant and long-term structural changes to our public transit, not a one-time fix.
Today, with the launch of NITA, we are one meaningful step closer to establishing the safe, reliable and connected regional transit system that we need and deserve.
Last year, our state’s transit faced a doomsday scenario: service cuts and fare hikes that would have left riders stranded.
Today, we’re launching the Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA) to deliver a reliable, safe, and unified public transportation system for the region.
After 52 years, a new era begins for public transit across Chicagoland.
Today, the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) officially becomes the Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA).
For riders, the transition to NITA will not bring a change in who operates your bus or train, and all Ride Free and Reduced Fare programs will continue under NITA.
