If I was organizing a tech team for the startup right now with a budget for three senior devs that's what I would do:

* Hire two senior guys who know what they do for sure and arm them with all AI tools they need.
* Find three juniors who are bright and promising and forbid them to use AI.

To be honest, it looks horrendous. One of two things will happen: Anthropic hires even more devs than they hire now or they will throw out this code at the same speed.

Code is not an asset. Code is a liability.

Today, Anthropic engineers on average ship 8x as much code per quarter as they did compared to 2021-2025.

I am very surprised that CEOs and devs that were optimizing the costs of infrastructure went insane all of sudden.

@seraleev Definitely should, but as a logical task. They should not develop any applied skills, but a problem solving technique.
It will matter at any age of technology.

@thekitze I have high hopes in opensource models because of this. Deepseek and Qwen can work at a fraction of a cost and give you acceptable results.

I think you have missed the point of my message. Let me expand what I meant by overhiring.
Executives of such companies were seeking for a reason to make a layoff in a way that won't crush their stocks. AI is a reason for them, not a solution.

Most companies are overhired. There are only a small number of companies of the right size.

I will not cry about the Romanovs, they reaped what they sawed. But what Soviets did during the collectivization is far worse than what Romanovs did.

At the same time I acknowledge that Soviets launched the first man to the space. From my point of view what they did in terms of literacy en masse is fabulous. But the mass oppression wasn't the cause for it.

It was literally an achievement for ones at a cost of the others. If we forget about it I can agree with you.

By "anything good" I meant that when you start to opress one group nothing can stop you from opressing the others. The aristocracy was the start, then the kulaks, and ordinary peasants at the very end in USSR.
