This week, we are in Amuru and Serere districts training Agroecology Ambassadors and selected Farmer Field School (FFS) members on the application of agroecology principles and practices under the Rooted in Diversity (RiD) project.

Equipping model farmers with practical skills in agroecological practices makes them catalysts for farmer-to-farmer learning, helping more communities restore soil health through practices such as composting and accelerating the transition to sustainable, more resilient food systems.

In Masaka district, central Uganda, small-scale farmers are rewriting the story of "Waste" through rearing red earthworms that convert Kitchen scraps, cow dung and plant residues into nutrient-rich compost.

Uganda imports large volumes of agrochemicals, yet 59% of the 41 registered for use are classified as highly hazardous by the US EPA and banned in the EU.

An insightful article in @DailyMonitor highlights that these chemicals pose serious risks to farmers, consumers, and the environment. Urgent policy action is needed to phase out such toxic substances and promote safer agricultural practices.

Earlier today, our National Coordinator @NMugimba led the @ESAFFUganda team in signing an MoU with the Uganda Parliamentary Alliance on Food and Nutrition Security (UPA-FNS).

This partnership formalizes our collaboration to strengthen food and nutrition security in Uganda by connecting small-scale farmers, especially women, youth, and marginalized groups with Parliament and the different parliamentary processes.

Together, we will engage in advocacy for nutrition-sensitive policies, small scale farmers–Parliament dialogue, research, policy reviews, joint fundraising and capacity-building on agroecology, climate resilience, and sustainable diets.

Land service delivery in Mityana and Gomba districts continues to be undermined by corruption, inefficiencies, weak institutional capacity, poor information flow, and inadequate protection for vulnerable groups leading to tenure insecurity and social injustice.
