Community Health Promoters (CHPs) are the foundation of our health system and the first point of contact between households and healthcare services. They provide health information, preventive care, timely referrals, and promote healthier lifestyles.

As a central pillar of Primary Health Care (PHC), the backbone of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), CHPs drive disease prevention, early detection, and community–facility linkages, easing the burden on higher-level hospitals and ensuring no one is left behind.

To strengthen their skills and effectiveness, we convened a meeting on empowering CHPs through entrepreneurial initiatives that improve livelihoods while sustaining their critical role in the health sector. The discussions explored training and support programmes to build capacity in financial literacy, resource management, and small-scale business ventures.

In partnership with AMREF Health Africa, Kenya Commercial Bank, and government agencies such as the Cooperatives and MSME Departments, these programmes will be rolled out nationwide to boost CHPs’ resilience, morale, and capacity to serve communities with greater dedication and effectiveness.
