Quite astonishing to hear the near-complete silence from tech leaders on the attacks on academic research. You've received PhDs from our institutions, and have hired countless more. This will come back to hurt in 5-10 years. The time to speak is now.
I'm recruiting multiple Ph.D. students across all departments (ME, EE, CS). Growing research projects focus on dexterous manipulation in novel settings, combining control and learning with visuotactile sensing and non-smooth dynamics.

I couldn't agree more with this sentiment. It is imperative that we roboticists take ownership of the moral and ethical consequences of our work, both short and long term. Speaking for myself, I am deeply disappointed to see the weaponization of walking robots.
New preprint: "Impact Invariant Control with Applications to Bipedal Locomotion," by William Yang.
During impacts, robots undergo large and rapid changes in velocity. State estimation, and thus control, in these periods are incredibly difficult. (1/2)
