Celebrating Girls/Women in Aviation.

AirServ, in partnership with Women in Aviation International and the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), hosted 100 Girls from various schools as part of the “Girls in Aviation Day” celebrations held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at the UCAA Head Office. While engaging with the girls, the Uganda CAA Director General, Fred K. Bamwesigye urged them not to just think about becoming pilots but to consider the various other aviation careers.

Earlier on, the event began with inspiring remarks from the Uganda CAA Deputy Director General, Ms. Olive Birungi Lumonya, aimed at interesting the girl child in aviation. She emphasized training of women and girls in aviation disciplines and shared her career journey to inspire the girls. She noted need to enhance awareness of what is required to join the aviation industry, and cited career guidance sessions that UCAA is undertaking in various schools.

The day featured engaging panel discussions led by female aviation experts, including African leaders in aviation, air traffic controllers, pilots, and firefighters , among others with panel discussions covering key topics such as robotics and coding, drone technology, and various career paths within the industry.

The event was aimed at inspiring and empowering  girls aged 13 to 18, giving them a unique opportunity to explore the aviation industry. In the afternoon, the girls were treated to an exclusive tour of Entebbe International Airport’s facilities, including the Airside, and the interior of Uganda Airlines’ Airbus.

The girls experienced the entire passenger journey—from embarking at Departures to disembarking through Arrivals—giving them a comprehensive understanding of what it's like to travel through an international airport, and the roles played by various stakeholders in the passenger processing chain. @FredBamwesigye @LumonyaOlive #WomeninBusiness @WomenInAviation #Girlchildempowerment #girl_control
