In the US, spending on data center construction now exceeds spending on public transportation infrastructure — including airports, marine terminals, and all mass transit.
I will soon be introducing a bill to give the public a 50% ownership stake in the largest AI companies in America.
This would guarantee that the trillions created by AI are used to improve the lives of all of us — and block oligarch decisions that harm the American people.
I do hope they can pull it off. I’m still very skeptical. Blue is not known for moving quickly, nor do they seem to be staffed for a crash effort like this.
I don’t really want to make a SpaceX comparison, but when S36 blew up Masseys, they could pull on resources who were working on pad 2 or at the Cape (and it still took 8 months). Blue doesn’t really have that. Still, they’ll be legends if they can fly by the end of the year.
@rah_66_comanche@eager_space@SciGuySpace Totally agree and that’s why they shouldn’t come out announcing timelines yet. It’s just setting the stage for disappointment.
@WisconsinProg@WIclassic Charlie Sykes (yes, that Charlie Sykes) used to have a weekly segment on his Milwaukee radio program called the “Deep Tunnel Awards” where he’d hand out awards to the biggest fails of the week.
@HattsworthIsYou@FreeNortherner That’s a fair point, but since agricultural land is zoned as such there’s no reason it can’t be taxed in a way that’s appropriate. In fact I’m pretty sure agricultural land is already handled differently, at least in my area.
@wokal_distance The value of a thing - anything - is set at *sale*. A middle class person lucky enough to see property appreciation is not richer or able to pay more in tax simply because the property has appreciated.
You’re both wrong. Obviously property taxes based upon the assessed value are a tax on unrealized gains. The tax funding things most people deem necessary doesn’t change that.
However, the solution to one unfair tax is not to impose a similarly unfair tax on someone else.
This is about as bad as a Low IQ populist slop post can be. Property taxes typically cover services for your property, or are related to your area, police, fire, education etc. They don't tax unrealized gains & adding an unrealized gains tax would hurt property owners the most
Not a boomer, but your terms are acceptable. As a rural resident, I don’t get fancy municipal fire and EMS service anyway. All volunteer here. Call the ambulance, get a bill. Yeah, no local police either. County sheriff is funded by a county sales tax. Senior centers? That’s a good one.
As theory, this is correct. As a practical matter, with the right being more conservative and the left being more progressive, more extreme change tends to come primarily from the left.
Of course reactionary change can come from the right, it’s just not as prevalent…, it’s right there in the name - reaction to something, generally some overreach of the left.
British people have no right to complain about American English. Literally all of our quirks come from some random regional dialect in your country. This is your fault.
