After the International Space Station (ISS) is decommissioned, Russia and India are agreeing to put their future space stations, Russian Orbital Station (ROS) and Bharatiya Antriksh Station (BAS) on the same orbit inclination. It will have a 51.6° inclination orbit.

The news was shared by Dmitry Bakanov, head of Roscosmos, during a visit to New Delhi.

Update on LAT Aerospace

Our first uSTOL technology demonstrator is ready. Today, we have a fully-electric, fixed-wing UAV, built from scratch and almost ready for flight.

To make this possible in just a few months, we built our entire flight lab from scratch. Every bench, every tool, every fixture designed to push the aircraft closer to flight every single day.

This aircraft is designed to takeoff in 40 meters (thanks to a massive CL of 5 which is more than 2x of what you see on most aircraft). Endurance of 60 minutes. With a range of being able to cruise autonomously from Mumbai to Pune.

Ground rolls done. As I type this, we are pushing hard to get the bird in the air. Hopefully it doesn't blow up. Either way, I promise videos of our attempt sometime over the next few weeks.

We have learnt so much over the last few months, and I am sure that there are a lot of hard learnings yet in store for us. Our research on hybrid-electric propulsion is already in full swing, and we’ve also started building a team to begin development on our own gas turbine engines.

This is one of the hardest engineering challenges possible. Our team is relentlessly at it to make this a reality before the turn of this decade.

It is nearly impossible to raise $10m with the pitch. “We are two Ph.D students. We have this moonshot idea. We will take three years for deep R&D and build a product. 99% chance we will fail”. Some deep tech need to start with $100M seed. Heard of LLM and GPUs?

No one will touch them with barge pole. No one was interested in Skyroot when I funded them in 2018 and now they are nations pride.

No one was funding Ather until @_sachinbansal and @binnybansal did so in 2014.

No one is funding building gas turbines engine until @deepigoyal decided to do this.

Enough talk! Let’s start putting our money where our mouth is. Or we will forever be waiting to clap for Altman/Zuckerberg/Jensen Huang whenever they grace us with their almighty presence.

Dear VCs - You have done great service by funding 10 min delivery, real money gaming, instant lending (mostly to the rich) and other operations business which has helped build the ecosystem. Now please don’t chase 5 min delivery for everything.

Very bold of the government to create RDI fund. I am waiting with bated breath to see 10s of millions to start flowing into deserving deep tech startups. The day can’t come fast enough.

NASA had film cameras on the second stage of the Saturn V to capture staging events, the cameras would be ejected and recovered from the ocean, one problem was the cameras and their film needed to be in places that could easily be ejected which meant there were a few things that they wanted to film which they couldn't film.
NASA investigated the concept of having a camera in one location and storing the footage elsewhere in a return pod that was in a location that could be ejected. Obviously these days you'd just run a wire carrying the video data, but in this case when I say 'footage' I literally mean a hundred feet of 16mm film.
They built and tested a system where the film from a camera would move through tubes to the pick up reel for recovery. This would also enable them to consolidate the film recovery in a single capsule which would be larger and better equipped.
