TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT UPDATE

The driver UAY 458F, Wansika Bosco has been detained @Maya Checkpoint after he was found driving the bus under the influence of alcohol. He is currently in custody and will be produced before court to answer the charges.

Meanwhile, 03 school bus drivers were intercepted @Njeru for driving without the badges issued by @MoWT_Uganda. They have been detained and will appear in court tomorrow.

We condemn drink-driving, which puts the lives of passengers and other road users at serious risk. We further urge all bus drivers, including school bus drivers, to ensure they possess valid badges & comply with all traffic laws and regulations.

Road safety is a shared responsibility.

Mabira Police intercepted 3 buses transporting people to Jinja for recreational activities at the beaches over the weekend.
One, the driver of UA 690 CD was found operating without a valid PSV/PMO & carried passengers in excess. Another, the driver of UBD 912P was found driving with expired driving licence & insurance policy, while the driver of UA 611DK fled from the scene immediately after being stopped. The registered owner of the vehicle has been tasked to produce him before the @policeUg for appropriate action.
The 2 arrested drivers have since appeared in court to answer charges relating to the offenses committed, while investigations into the third case are ongoing.
We continue to see this habit, particularly along the Kampala–Jinja & Kampala–Masaka routes, more especially during weekends when people travel to beaches & other leisure destinations. It is unfortunate that passengers tolerate these unsafe practices as long as they reach their destinations.
Such dangerous behaviors have contributed to road traffic crashes that have claimed lives & left others injured.
We urge all road users to prioritize safety over convenience.
Road safety begins with each one of us. Every journey should start with a conscious decision to value life by complying with traffic laws & making responsible choices on the road.

JUST IN: Police have arrested two school bus drivers for allegedly dangerously overloading buses transporting pupils of St. Kizito Primary School to an educational tour.
The suspects have been identified as Alia Kimbugwe, the driver of UA 092AS, who was found carrying 110 pupils, and Abubakar Mutesasira, the driver of UAN 619X, who was found carrying 97 pupils.
The arrests come just hours after a fatal crash in Kapchorwa claimed the lives of 20 pupils and the director of King David Junior School, Ndejje, as they were returning from a study tour.
