For anyone interested in scientific research (including non-scientists!), check out this amazing new tool called Connected Papers (https://t.co/XnItpQl4wR). You can also read my blog post about it (https://t.co/FCTQYXTEnD).
At 44 yrs old, I fully expect BioBank research to benefit people in my lifetime. I also expect my children, nieces, and nephews to directly benefit from ongoing biomedical research (and not in a Sackler family/opioid epidemic way). #science#medicine https://t.co/Gjtx0hGYRe
Why was I invited to participate in a BioBank? In the past 3 years I've had 33 doctor's appointments, 4 surgeries, 5 hospital stays, and perhaps 10 MRIs. My medical records = lots of data. #science#medicine https://t.co/Gjtx0hGYRe
I was ridiculously excited to donate blood to a BioBank. Perhaps a million patients will donate blood so that anonymous medical records can be linked to DNA sequences, and used in research to better understand and treat human diseases. #science#medicine https://t.co/Gjtx0hGYRe
. . . my right arm hurt from all the lifting, so I took Advil for a week to reduce the swelling. My arm felt better, but I developed increased muscle weakness, leg cramps, an eye twitch, and increased fatigue. 😭 I'm back to only my anti-seizure meds.

Muscle weakness is one of the many side effects of my anti-seizure medication. So when I moved to a new house in December, it was a real accomplishment to handle the packing/unpacking, hanging shelves, etc. Then . . .

#IVoted I love that California (my current state) and Colorado (my previous state) allow citizens to vote-by-mail for every election. One day I will take my daughter and my son to visit Susan B. Anthony's grave. #HistoryMatters
I originally thought it wouldn't be too bad if I was part of a 2 or 3 day trial. I could do my civic duty and take another step towards getting back to "normal." But 3 weeks of leaving the house at 7am and getting back at 6pm was not going to work. #BTSM
The judge excused me from 2-3 weeks of jury duty for "hardship." It took me 90 min to get to court, I have a 2 yr old and a 5 yr old, and 2 yrs after brain surgery I still have fatigue issues with dizziness and blurred vision. I took 90 min to get home, then I slept. #BTSM
@oneofnottms@DVLAgovuk Hooray for no seizures! Depending on where you live, not being able to drive can be a huge inconvenience. Thank goodness for the internet and things you can do online. =)
I had jury duty on Monday. I can't remember the names of the 11 other people in the jury box. But I could point out the M.D. whose clinic is short-staffed, the retired math professor, the man who witnessed an armed robbery, and the woman who's boyfriend got a DUI. #BTSM#aphasia
I had jury duty on Monday. I was put in the jury selection box for a 2-3 week criminal trial. Explained to the court that because of my brain surgery 2 years ago, I still have a terrible time remembering peoples names. I thought it could be important. #BTSM
When the news of the day gets you down, it's good to remember that life is beautiful, and that we know vastly more about the intricacies of life, and how to save lives than we did just a few decades ago. #NikonSmallWorld https://t.co/6hQOrDl5je
Yippee! I got a byline AND paid for a blog post I wrote as a science editor. Words learned after childhood are much less effected by my Broca's #aphasia, so I can edit whole science pages and feel normal. But then I can't pronounce words I just typed.#BTSM https://t.co/1z2uCvahZj
It's my 2 year #cranioversary. My neurosurgeon originally thought I would be mostly recovered within a month, but now my neurologist talks about adjusting to my "new normal." I want my old life back, but I have no choice but to move forward as best I can. #btsm#aphasia
It's my 2 year #cranioversary! I got my first paycheck in over 2 yrs for my new side hustle. I only checked my grocery list twice at Costco, and only had to nap for an hour afterwards. I also got the opportunity to send my book proposal to another publishing house! #btsm#aphasia
@adamhayden My neurosurgeon thought I would be "mostly recovered" after a month. But c*&% happened, and I still had significant deficiencies after a year. I'm 2 years out and can pass for normal, but have come to realize that I will never fully recover. That is hard. #btsm
