@magi_jay The comments you get when you criticize him are the reason his character is such an important issue. The disdain, the personal attacks, the purposeful mischaracterization of what you’re saying… we know what this is, we’ve seen it before, and this guy’s a magnet for it.
@tatumturnup Last week we flew through a terrible storm, bumpiest flight I’ve ever been on. The guy next to me commented that AI would soon be piloting our airplanes. He said it like a good thing.
@smalls2672 If Claude, as a sycophantic AI, is trained to give you what you want to hear, would there be different answer if Pete Hegseth or another blood-thirsty MAGA asked the same question?
🚨BREAKING: DHS agents are now illegally arresting U.S. citizens at airports… and trafficking them across state lines.
A 28-year-old U.S. citizen, Sunny Naqvi, was detained by DHS, for 43 hours, after landing at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.
She wasn’t charged with a crime, and she wasn’t accused of doing anything illegal…
Agents reportedly detained her over what they called a “curious travel history.”
Even though Sunny was born in Illinois…they still disappeared her.
After being held for about 30 hours inside the airport, agents secretly moved Sunny to an ICE detention facility in Broadview, Illinois.
While this was happening, federal agents repeatedly told her family she was NOT in custody, even though her phone location showed she was inside the facility.
Then it gets worse.
According to witnesses, agents asked for Sunny’s phone number so they could “look for her phone.”
Minutes later, the phone was opened, her messages were read, and the device was shut off, cutting off the family’s ability to track her.
After that, agents transported the U.S. citizen across state lines, to another detention facility in Dodge County, Wisconsin.
And then she was eventually released early Saturday morning… in a random state, alone.
Her phone was dead, and she had no transportation.
So, a U.S. citizen detained by the federal government had to hitchhike to a hotel, just to be able to reunite with her family.
And this is what people need to understand…
When federal agents can detain U.S. citizens without charges… lie to families about their custody, search personal phones, and secretly transport people across state lines…
That puts every single American in danger.
Because they can do it to anyone.
@TheRickWilson The most illuminating truth lies in the parentheses:
(While not specifically an American problem, I assure you that Bibi Netanyahu has absolutely no desire to see a peaceful and democratic Iran. He needs a permanent enemy.)
@RVAwonk This is brilliantly written, thank you. One thing I’d like to see in the discourse is we’ve already seen examples of these issues in Gaza: https://t.co/BlwHMzAxdP
We are really close to the edge. The people who have put us there would be wise to recognize how close we are to falling off of it.
What's at risk is far more than just our democracy. It's an entire world order that has created stability and prosperity, not just for Europe, but for our own nation.
Invading Greenland, coercing our European allies to relinquish the territory, or otherwise breaking NATO could lead to truly catastrophic events. One event leads to another and before you know it, China has invaded Taiwan, Russia has invaded the Baltic states, the dollar has lost its reserve currency, and there is a worldwide depression.
This isn't some farfetched hypothetical scenario. This isn't something that could happen 20 years from now if we continue on our present course. This could happen in the next couple of years. It could happen next year.
Many of the anti-democratic actors in my country who have put the world and their own country in this position think this is just a game and there are not real consequences to their actions. Others though, I think understand how this could play out. But they view a world defined by war and depression as in their favor. After all, they're in power, and ultimately chaos redounds to the benefit of those who have a monopoly on force.
It's time for anyone in this country who has cultural, economic, or political power to use that power to make it clear just how unacceptable this present situation is. If you don't care enough about ICE in Minneapolis, or anti-democratic actors lighting our Constitution on fire to speak up and speak out, fine. It is what it is. But do you care about your economic self interest? Do you care about America being a prosperous nation? Do you care about keeping your own wealth?
You can think I'm exaggerating. And look, I'm not saying this WILL happen. But it could definitely happen. The risks are too great to stay small, to go along, and to rationalize doing nothing. It's time to get off the sidelines and act.
I study authoritarianism for a living, so I do not say this lightly: America isn't facing an authoritarian future. America is living an authoritarian present.
