Updates & group news on our research in nano-bio interactions. Founding group member @KorinWheeler. We’re in Dept of Chemistry & Biochemistry @SantaClaraCAS.
Our latest work with @drk_chem lab and Asuri lab @SCUEngineering explores the impact of glycation on protein interactions, reactivity, & toxicity of silver nanoparticles.
So excited to share our work from @NanoBiochemSCU on nanoparticle surface coating impacts on protein corona formation, physicochemical properties, and cytotoxic response— out now in ACS Omega!! https://t.co/xHxQkteZdN
Claire Alford from our team was highlighted for her work as president of Santa Clara’s Native American Coalition for Change (NACC) and organization of the second annual Powwow at SCU. Nice work, Claire!! #LifeAtSCU#OutOfTheLab

Speaking of @kirafahy she ran into another alum, Jackie Rogers, at the last fall ACS meeting! We are so lucky to do science with a team of so many smart, good people. #BetterTogether
ICYMI (we were too excited to retweet it right away) -
We are thrilled for former team member @kirafahy!! We are so proud to be a part of your journey and can’t wait to see where this opportunity takes your work. This is so deserved for you and @LYChihab.

Congrats to @LYChihab and @kirafahy on their recent NSF-GRFP awards! It is really exciting to see our alumni being recognized for their outstanding graduate work. #SCUProud#SCUAlumni
So great chat science and see beautiful Montreal at ICEENN 2022! Thanks to @TufenkjiLab and other organizers. It was worth the two year wait. The welcome event even had Dinosaurs!!
Our newest lab member, Claire Alford (public health, ‘25), was a @SustainableNano REU summer researcher with @plantnanotech. She just presented her final poster @UCRiverside & we can’t wait hear all about it when she returns to @SCU_ChemBiochem in a few weeks!!
Karl Schumacher (BioEng, ‘24) joined the group! Karl is a @SustainableNano REU student this summer working on methods to study peptide-particle interactions. He’s a maker (!) & brings 3D printed gadgets to the lab - like this epi holder for light sensitive samples. #LabPerks
@SantaClaraCAS Beckman Scholar Erica @Svendahl_ presented her summer research last week at the Beckman Symposium in Berkeley. What a great opportunity to chat science in a beautiful spot! #SCUproud
Catching up on our group posts: In May, we had our annual spring celebration. After two years online, it was so good to just hang out and cook together! #BetterTogether#LifeAtSCU#OutOfTheLab
Jonathan Staley @jonostaley (biochem, ‘23) joined the lab! In just a few short weeks, Jonathan has become the team expert in DLS. He’s also a foodie- with great recipes and pizza topping ideas! #SCUsummer#ChemistsWhoCook
We’ve started our first summer of research in the new SCDI lab building!! So far, we are pretty sure experiments just work better when there are palm trees 🌴 overlooking the instruments. #OnlySantaClara
Started to move into the new lab. Made it a home by breaking a few things (well, mostly one of us @KorinWheeler) and putting away our favorite piece of equipment.
Why should we care about #nanotechnology? Why is smaller better? Check out this link to read why & explore some every day uses for nanotechnology. https://t.co/2uj5IuEaGb #NationalNanoDay
Congratulations to #SCU2020 seniors from @NanoBiochemSCU - Jackie Rogers (ESS), Caleb Ling (Biochem/philosophy), and @kirafahy (Biochem/spanish). You are already off doing fascinating science. Enjoy the celebration!! #SCUSeniors
