To end off the semester, this is a great read on selecting a diet and foods that will improve cardiovascular health. It puts an emphasis on having a variety of foods, fewer processed foods, limit added sugars, and more! @beh353#beh353
@SamNimNutrition@beh353 Hi Samantha! I also aspire to become a PA in the future and work as a current CNA as well! Battling weight-bias is a great way to advocate for your patients against the current societal stereotypes. I also hope to advocate against weight discrimination! @beh353#beh353
This nutrition course has taught me so much vital information to use now and as an aspiring PA. It is important to use this knowledge with my patients to advise them with proper meal plans and nutritional advice, as well as being aware of any possible disorders. @beh353#beh353
An important read on spreading awareness on eating disorders especially during holiday gatherings and dinner. Such holidays can put stress on these individuals. It is important to understand when a family member may need to seek help. @beh353@beh353
Both male and female athletes have eating disorders / disordered eating. https://t.co/tetid2NTVs For those struggling with food issues, Thanksgiving can be a tough day. Be gentle on yourself...
@CHUNTTS @EmmaDArpinoRD@beh353 Hi Chun! I agree how Emma really touched upon the communication needs and importance. I believe all professionals in healthcare we need to be mindful and have dual perspective. @beh353#beh353
@EmmaDArpinoRD Thank you for being apart of our lecture! Sounds like you had a lot of great dietician experience at Umass Memorial and private practice! I learned how vital a dietician is in the inpatient hospital setting, which I have seen at work myself! @beh353#beh353
This is a great empirical article on how what a child eats can lead to further complications. This may be beneficial to focus on a fewer processed food for children and more organic, home-made, nutrient dense options for children. @beh353#beh353
Data from a study of 9,000 children followed for 10 years suggests higher body fat in those who are the most ultra-processed food vs those who ate less of it. https://t.co/CFZfctUBCJ
@AlexMatos88_ This is a great choice for an article! It is not too much heavy material (good for general public) and categorizes different nutritional needs in sections. The author also writes several other pregnancy focused information. @beh353#beh353
This is an article posted by Harvard regarding on healthy eating for children. The article is easy to read with bulleted notes and pictures on protein, whole grains, fruits, veggies that can be targeted for the kid (5-13) age group. @beh353#beh353

@Doheon15@beh353 Hi Doheon! This is such a fair point! Though one may be overweight, their health and body could be fine. This is one of the messages I got from this weeks reading. Patient- provider communication with overweight patients should be improved first! @beh353#beh353
Everyone--please read this info about chemicals in food that disrupt hormones and can contribute to weight gain: https://t.co/NllLTukDoI Weight loss is complex and not as simple as "eat less and exercise more." @ConscienHealth#EDCs#obesity
The author quoted that doctors should be "trusted authorities" and "gateways to healing" (Hobbes,7). Its upsetting that people who struggle to maintain their weight feel neglected in the healthcare system. It is important to have mindfulness and dual-perspective.

@EverGlowwz @beh353 Hi Edwin! I agree, when putting it into fraction or a percentage as a whole it is crazy to understand. I hope there can be better public health changes and prevention methods in the future. @beh353#beh353
This is a very beneficial article when people regard to others based on their disabilities or conditions. As a future healthcare, I would use mindfulness and improve communication between a patient and provider. @beh353#beh353
One fact I learned, based on the case study in lecture, is that those with significant weight-loss also have a difficulty with their metabolism adapting to it as well. Individuals body's need to change to utilize energy in a different way. @beh353#beh353

@KaylaTat1@beh353 I also struggle with this barrier as well! Being in college we rarely have time to cook and prepare healthy meals and tend to chose quick and easy meals that lack important nutrients. @beh353#beh353
These such changes are beneficial to overcoming the barriers that individuals meet when trying to accomplish a healthy diet. Access to healthy options and costs of food are a dilemma for seniors. @beh353#beh353
A barrier I face would be the the high costs of healthy options. I tend to buy more fruits, vegetables, and organic choices at the supermarket. However, especially in Boston and being a college student, the costs are high. Ex: a pack strawberries are $5.99. @beh353#beh353
