On the 600th protest day in Tbilisi a small march in the touristic area of the city was dedicated messaging Russians, in the shadows of recent incidents between Georgians and Russian tourists in the country.
#GeorgiaProtests
Prominent Georgian journalist and a Formula TV presenter Vakho Sanaia is handcuffed as he is jailed for a facebook post about Georgian Dream figures Shalva Papuashvili and Lado Bozhadze. Judge Zviad Tsekvava issued the ruling after Sanaia wrote that he would not voluntarily pay a 6,000 GEL fine imposed on him on July 10 over earlier posts mocking demands not to use an obscene insult against Papuashvili and Bozhadze.
The case comes as jailing and fining people over Facebook posts and other forms of expression has become increasingly routine in Georgia. Georgian Dream has also created a special unit within the Interior Ministry to “systematically monitor” public communication, including social media, for alleged hate speech and “offensive campaigns.”
Sentencing journalist Vakho Sanaia to 14 days in detention for a Facebook post shows how rapidly Georgia is sliding into Kremlin-style repression.
At this pace, Bidzina Ivanishvili will soon surpass his masters in Moscow.
EU must react on this.
Solidary with Vakho Sanaia!
NEW!! US House Passes Georgia Bill Targeting Russian, Chinese Influence Amid Deepening Rift With Tbilisi
@RepJoeWilson told @RFERL after tonight's House vote that the legislation was intended to support the Georgian people rather than the country's current leadership.
“The anti-American Georgian Dream party does not represent the Georgian people. The Georgian people want to have a strong relationship with the United States. The only way to do that is free political prisoners, have free and fair elections, and root out the malign influence of China, Russia, and Iran.”

3 are Georgian companies!
More than any other country outside Russia.
Alongside Russian oligarchs and the Kyrgyz infrastructure behind the A7 network.
Georgia remains a haven for sanctions evasion.
