Sub here in LA this morning. Events like this stress the need of inspections, a way to monitor for issues live, and proper settings on relays to detect and clear faults. Even with all this events like this can still happen but likelihood and impact are substantially reduced.

@LaughLax @BSmithwood When I saw this that was exactly my thought. They may have just flipped the test switches and allowed the relay to trip w/o sending signal to bkr. Able to test the relays and clear the line from ice. Win win.

Reviewing a paper and I have a problem… as much as I’m not a fan of the ICS acronym, I am really not a fan of it meaning two separate things in the same context. Paper is saying ICS = industrial communication system. If merit of paper is somewhat sound what would ya do?

When lines ice up — like they did in southwestern Manitoba this week — we have a number of ways to clean it off. This is what ice melting looks like. We create a short, the line heats up, and the ice falls off. Crews in the icy southwest will be de-icing this weekend. Drive safe!
