Hi @RosieP4 before any works begin, all permissions and licences are secured and the area is assessed and checked by a suitably qualified ecologist, who remains onsite during vegetation removal.
No work will be carried out within an agreed distance if active nests are identified. Any planting removed will also be reinstated in line with plans agreed by local authorities.
Hi @kstandbridge1, thanks for raising this. We understand the concerns prompted by this video and welcome the opportunity to clarify what’s happening.
We have been working at Waltham Cross substation as part of the North London Reinforcement project, which will support London’s future energy needs. We work closely with Lee Valley Regional Park, and before any work began, ecological monitoring was carried out to check for protected species and ensure the works were in line with environmental requirements.
Across the project, we’re aiming to achieve a 15% Biodiversity Net Gain. This means that once the works are completed, the natural environment will be left in a measurably better state than before, through projects delivered both on-site and in locations further away.
If you’d like more information about the works, please do get in touch with us at [email protected]
A major step forward in strengthening the backbone of Britain’s energy network: the UK’s biggest-ever electricity transmission project is now under contract.
Eastern Green Link 3 is a new 690km subsea and underground link between Scotland and England.
Subject to planning approval, construction is due to begin in 2028: https://t.co/9d5m7Xd1m5

Our investment in the energy future of Britain and the US Northeast is accelerating. With regulatory support in both the UK and US, we are expanding the record-level of investment announced in 2024 by £10 billion to at least £70 billion over the next five years by FY2031.
This expansion recognises the broad change taking place across the energy system today. Electricity networks must increase capacity to respond to network growth and drive forward innovation in both the UK and US. The increase in efficiency will help industries grow and our customers and communities can prosper.

⚡ Storm Goretti may be over, but our support to our local communities never ends.
🌧️ The recent storm caused significant disruption to our network and our local communities have been affected. However, we are still doing everything we can to ensure people have what they need during this time.
🍔 We still have our welfare van (serving hot drinks and food) in Penryn (TR10 8SB) today, supporting members of the community.
🤝 We also have been working closely with British Red Cross, who are out knocking on doors helping those who may need extra support.
☕ We're also working with Warm Welcome to provide heated spaces across our area where you can access warmth, hot drinks, and a friendly welcome. The full list of Warm Spaces, can be found here:

☁️ Storm Goretti Update
A small and decreasing number of homes are still without power, mainly in areas where fallen trees, debris, and high winds have made access extremely difficult.
The videos and images here demonstrate some of the access and debris challenges that our teams are facing.
Our engineers are working around the clock in challenging conditions to reach every remaining property and restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding - we won’t stop until everyone is back on supply.

Our RIIO T3 Business Plan for 2026 to 2031 sets out how our ambitious investment will drive the most significant step forward in the UK’s transmission network for a generation.
Today our regulator @Ofgem published its final determination on the plan. We are:
▶️ Now reviewing the determination to assess whether it enables investment at the scale and pace needed for a future-proof, affordable and reliable transmission network.
▶️ Continuing to work closely with Ofgem, government, and stakeholders to ensure the framework works for consumers, communities and the country.
A supportive regulatory framework is critical to unlocking investment, supporting economic growth and delivering on the UK’s clean energy ambitions.
