Overall, our study demonstrates the utility of deforestation models in providing an early warning system to help direct action to parts of the planet that could play a pivotal role in mitigating the effects of global environmental change.

Our latest research in Biological Conservation uncovers concerning trends for #Guyana's forests: a potential 9% loss by 2043 without intervention. Mining is a key driver. However a protected area expansion might be a part of the solution!

We predicted a 9% loss in forest cover by 2043, driven mainly by mining and settlements. Encouragingly, protected areas proved effective in reducding deforestation probability. Expanding this network in Guyana could slash forest, carbon and habitat losses!

#Urban areas impact wildlife commmunites in many ways. Yet, research has mainly focused on single ecoregions in temperate regions. To bridge this gap, we studied urban #bird communities in two #Amazon ecoregions in #Guyana: forest and savannah.
