Presume that means this chap does not have a smart phone, an iPad, a computer, an email account or any social media account. If he does, he has already given his personal data to a foreign company. If he has enabled fingerprint access on any of these, then he has already given his biometic data as well. If he has travelled to any country where biometric data is taken on arrival, they he has already given his biometric data to a foreign government.
This is wrong. The estimated gov revenue from vehicle imports for 2025 is Rs. 428 billion. The estimated figure was presented to the COPF on 5 May. 230 bill is expected to be raised through Excise duty on motor vehicles, and 200 bill estimated revenue from custom duty, VAT etc
At the CoPF meeting, it was revealed that the Agri Ministry's paddy data was incorrect. Prices signal shortages & surpluses—when the ministry misled that we had enough paddy, prices showed a shortage, pushing them up. This is why price controls fail. We shouldn’t play with prices
@numberslka What about tourists? Do they also need to get approval from "TRCSL, Sri Lanka Customs, and other government bodies" to get their phones working in SL?
Following up on my US ERP estimates, here are the 2025 updates for global equity risk premiums. Take with a grain of salt, since these premiums are based upon sovereign ratings and country risk scores. Webpage; https://t.co/wy8WGu8WcI ERP spreadsheet: https://t.co/3VcH9kYUhD

Facts Sri Lankans should know. 1 in 3 Sri Lankans are under the poverty line & half of Sri Lankan families find it hard to have 3 proper meals. But a staple food, rice (imported) is taxed around Rs 60 a kilo. But Parliamentarians and doctors have been able to import vehicles duty free for years. I can't find words to describe this.
Import tariff on rice is an indirect and regressive tax on the poor as a poor family and a rich family consume roughly the same amount of rice. While a duty free car import permit for a parliamentarian or doctor is a subsidy for the rich as Parliamentarians (at least of the past parliaments) and doctors are considered well off compared to millions of Sri Lankans. This is like robbing from the poor and giving handouts to the rich.
Let's be very clear, a subsidy is a hand out of govt money. Why were parliamentarians given tax free imports of vehicles while poor families have to pay taxes on imported rice (around Rs 60 per kg) which makes the rice price go up by around 30% price?
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stating in September that he will altogether stop duty free vehicle permits for MPs is excellent. But at the same time, Sri Lanka has some of the highest food taxes in the world. Hope the new government can reduce the food taxes as more than anything else, it is essential that all Sri Lankans can have proper meals. Lack of proper meals affects young children which can have a permanent effect on their education and health for years to come.
It's nauseating to read this when we know how much suffering & how many procedures our transplant patients go through to get approval for even a few lakhs of rupees from the President's fund.
I'm absolutely disgusted that these are the types of people we choose to represent us.
Congratulations and thank you to all who worked hard to make this happen, inspite of the constant critisism. Thank you also to new administration for ensuring the deal went through. @CBSL@mahindasiriwar6@RW_SRILANKA

🍚🌾 When people stand in lines for rice, a 50% tax on imported rice is cruel and unjustifiable. If food security is the goal:
1️⃣ Remove price controls
2️⃣ Adjust Aswesuma payments to offset price increases from lifting controls
3️⃣ Slash import duties on food items
