Keir Starmer has just popped to the back of the plane on our way home from the Nato summit in Ankara.

He told us that Turkey's president Erdogan gave him, and all the other leaders, a surprising choice of gift: a revolver engraved with their names, with a box of live rounds.

But the PM had to leave his in Ankara - despite it coming with a note from Erdogan waiving export controls - because it would be illegal to import it to the UK. Instead, it stays behind for decomissioning.

The court’s decision to accelerate the debate in @ekrem_imamoglu’s trial, while even preventing him from being present in the courtroom, exposes the truth: @RTErdogan wants this political shame trial closed while all eyes are on the @NATO summit. This morning at 08:10, in my prison cell, I was notified of the court’s arbitrary decision: I am barred from attending my own trial.

The indictment bears my name. The case was built around me. Yet the court blocks me and restricts the defense of those facing the gravest charges, and their lawyers.

This is not a trial. It is a severe violation of the most basic right of defense, the pinnacle of what jurists call “enemy criminal law.”

A panel redesigned after the case was filed, in open defiance of the principle of the natural judge, can claim neither independence nor impartiality. As of today, it has abandoned even the appearance of judicial process. The “lawlessness of the century” has collapsed into a pile of extrajudicial execution.

And all this happens while Türkiye hosts the leaders of the democratic world in Ankara. The elected Mayor of Istanbul and the Presidential candidate of the democratic opposition is silenced in a courtroom he is not allowed to enter.

I am exposing this lawlessness.
