🎉🎉 Definitely a milestone in my surgical training.
Huge thank you to @chanpreetarhi for mentoring me and dedicating lists for my robotic training.
Of course, wouldn’t be possible without @vanashpatel who created a pathway for this training programme.
@CMRSurgical#Robotic
Last July when the consultant surgeons started robotic assisted surgery at @WestHertsNHS, our trainees were concerned that their surgical training would be impacted by consultant robotic learning curves.
I asked them to wholeheartedly support the robotics programme, to become invaluable bedside assistants, and help shorten the consultants learning curves.
In return, I promised a that once the consultants were trained then ‘training the trainees’ could resume.
Over the last 3 months our trainees have had virtual training, been on a technical skills course and started their live cases in colorectal and upper gastrointestinal surgery.
The trainees’ experience of training in robotic surgery has been overwhelming positive. Feedback from the robotic systems such as setup times, console times and volumetric hand motion provide objective metrics to measure their performance. From October, we have had the highest retention of trainees and requests to train in our unit
Training the future generation of surgeons has always been my passion, and I’m so happy that I am back to doing what I really enjoy 😊 @KhawarHashmi7@AlexisSudlow@Nazrin_Assaf@BhaminiVadhwana@chanpreetarhi@MrOMoussa@SreeMallappa@ASiTofficial@asgbi@ACPGBI@RCSnews@NHSEngland@CMRSurgical

It was a pleasure to share our experience @WestHertsNHS of our mentorship programme for robotic surgical training for trainees from ST4 level and upwards. It can be done safely and swiftly with the right #leadership and #teamwork. I am pleased that @Dukes_Club led by @LillianReza, @charlotte_e_25 and @Taner_Shakir have robotic training at the forefront of their agenda and they will play a pivotal role in helping to navigate the current disruption in colorectal training. The robotic industry (@CMRSurgical@IntuitiveSurg@Medtronic) must collaborate to streamline training pathways to prevent demoralising a generation of highly skilled colorectal trainees. @ACPGBI@ACPGBI_EduTrain@ASiTofficial@DaulatzaiNajib
🔥6 modern lessons in appendicitis every uptodate surgeon should know 👉
Appendicitis is common, it’s hard to diagnose, and every surgeon has an opinion.
I’ve been reading, publishing, and reviewing on it since 2011, since one of the first collaborative research projects ever: https://t.co/uVykZq2AOA
So here are 6 modern, evidence-based lessons every surgeon around the world should know🧵:
@BMA_Consultants@thomasdolphin Great interview by @thomasdolphin, especially with the questionable journalism skills of @KayBurley. One of the funniest things I have heard in a while “Not quite sure why you think that we (media) would be guided by the government” 🤔🤯🤣
“Robotics is here to stay, and we need to leverage this technology and increase take-up where this supports the best quality patient care." - @mortensen_neil.
A new collaboration with @IntuitiveSurg will advance our work in shaping the Future of Surgery. https://t.co/l1ascwj2dR
Since the introduction of robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) in the UK in the late 90s, over 12 million operations have been performed in 70 countries. 🤖
