Azerbaijan had the privilege to host another landmark global event — WUF13, the second biggest international gathering ever held in the country after COP29.

We congratulate all participants, partners, and the UN family, in particular UN-Habitat, on the successful and result-oriented WUF13.

With a record number of around 60,000 participants, WUF13 went down in history as the largest World Urban Forum ever held. The first-ever Leaders’ Segment, convened at Azerbaijan’s initiative, brought greater political momentum to the global urban agenda.

Rich and comprehensive discussions at WUF13 resulted in two important outcome documents — the Chair’s Summary and the Baku Call to Action. As a country that suffered from urbicide, culturcide, and ecocide, Azerbaijan is now rebuilding 9 cities and hundreds of villages from the ground up in Garabagh and East Zangezur. We therefore take pride in the strong recognition by the international community of Azerbaijan’s post-conflict reconstruction efforts, highlighted as a valuable example for other post-conflict contexts around the world.

The ideas emerging from the Forum and reflected in the outcome documents — ranging from clean air and sustainable urban development to the preservation of cultural heritage and the needs of Small Island Developing States — will further enrich and guide the global urban agenda.

At a time of growing global uncertainty, WUF13 represents another meaningful contribution by Azerbaijan to multilateralism and collective action for a better future.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone call today with H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During their most warm and cordial conversation, the two leaders exchanged greetings and reaffirmed the strong fraternal bonds of friendship between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

The Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes to President Aliyev for the success of the upcoming World Urban Forum to be held in Baku next week. He expressed confidence that the Forum, under Azerbaijan’s stewardship, would serve as a valuable platform for advancing the global urban development agenda. He noted that, most regrettably, pressing commitments would preclude his personal attendance at the event, but he had ensured that Pakistan would be well-represented at the Forum.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction on the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, while reiterating their shared commitment to deepening cooperation across areas of mutual interest including trade and investment, energy, and people-to-people contacts.

They also discussed regional developments of common concern, particularly the ongoing peace efforts in the Middle East.

President Aliyev expressed his deep appreciation at Pakistan’s remarkably successful initiatives to bring about a ceasefire between Iran and the U.S. This was a clear reflection of the trust and confidence of the international community in Pakistan and its leadership.

The two leaders agreed to maintain close contact, and looked forward to their meeting, in person, later this year. The Prime Minister also reiterated his cordial invitation to President Aliyev to undertake an official visit to Pakistan, at his earliest convenience.

On a working visit in Vatican, Elchin Amirbayov, Representative of 🇦🇿 President on special assignments, met with Secretary of State of the Holy See🇻🇦 Cardinal Pietro Parolin and🇻🇦Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher. Discussions focused on 🇦🇿🇻🇦 inter-state relations and their further successful development in political and humanitarian dimensions, prospects for peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus, regional security issues and other issues of mutual interest.

V lednu jsem na konferenci v Davosu prezidentu Alijevovi slíbil, že má první cesta mimo Evropskou unii povede do Ázerbajdžánu, a jsem rád, že jsem to mohl dodržet a přijmout pozvání do jeho rezidence v Gabale.

Děkuji za přátelské a hlavně velmi konkrétní jednání, mezi našimi zeměmi jsou silné vazby a potenciál obchodní spolupráce obrovský. Vzájemná obchodní výměna byla v loňském roce 42 miliard a dominantní část tvořily hlavně dodávky ázerbajdžánské ropy do České republiky. S @presidentaz jsme se shodli, že chceme spolupracovat i v jiných oblastech, máme velký zájem o dlouhodobý kontrakt na dodávky plynu, proto jsou tu s námi i zástupci ČEZ, a věřím, že se nám to i podaří dotáhnout. Pan prezident Alijev navrhl vytvoření mezivládní hospodářské komise, která bude řešit hlavně energetickou a průmyslovou spolupráci. Na naší straně ji povede @KarelHavlicek_ a na straně Ázerbajdžánu ministr hospodářství Mikayil Jabbarov.

Řešili jsme i další konkrétní projekty, třeba rozvoj karlovarského letiště nebo spolupráci s českými firmami, kterých si tu velmi váží, a například české zbrojařské společnosti jsou tu významnými dodavateli. Proto taky dnes pokračujeme na ázerbajdžánsko-českém obchodním fóru, kterého se účastní 77 zástupců ázerbajdžánských a 50 zástupců českých firem.

Určitě chci vztahy našich zemí dále rozvíjet, a proto jsem milerád pozval prezidenta Ilhama Alijeva i s jeho paní do České republiky.

Bylo mi ctí a těším se na další spolupráci 🇨🇿🤝🇦🇿
