For Father's Day today, I've looked back through my old family photos and cleaned-up this lovely old portrait of my great-granddad Walter Humphryes, born in Shoreditch, east London, in 1878. My nan spoke of him with enormous affection. He used to tell his wife "be gentle with the kids, life will knock them about enough". He was born into poverty and his first child died of malnutrition. He fought in Ypres and the Somme in WWI. During the General Strike of 1926 he would walk 8 miles to work across London and 8 miles home each evening. A different breed of man.
MRes Graduation and first lecture in the same week! It was wonderful to share the graduation with my son who has observed all the hard work and angst and seen me come through to the other side! #MQ
I found this at the bottom of my sewing stash and I can't bring myself to use them. Queen Mary became the Queen Mother in 1936. They were in box of sewing stuff given to me by a family friend about 10 years ago who had given up sewing at 90. #sewing#sewinghistory
Tina Turner was the first woman to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone (our second issue ever). Rest in peace to a legend and an icon. 🖤

@FinancialReview This is a very misleading headline. The body of the article seems to be on a completely different topic. This is a bias and fear-mongering headline that is designed to attract subsribers/sales through parental fear rather than actual journalism! Do better.
Born #onthisday in 1889, British painter Paul Nash — one of the most important landscape artists of the 20th century. See highlights from his depictions of WW1 and WW2, the body of work for which he best known today: https://t.co/EDnakODd0i #otd
@hannahforsyth@DrNatOsborne Absolutely. It is also particularly difficult for those of us who are neurodiverse. I had a 'teacher' say to me in the last few years they wondered "what planet I was from" after reading some of my notes. I recently received a HD for my MRes. 🙂
While there are plenty of benefits besides a job, humanities degrees do get graduates jobs. Why the federal Australian govt allows unis to charge $100k for these versatile degrees baffles me.
How about this campaign @Macquarie_Uni ?
I’m excited about @gatesfoundation’s new podcast. The opportunities to reduce inequity are out there, and @JenHatmaker does a wonderful job of showcasing innovative solutions to pressing global issues. https://t.co/Xalos3mSeP
@MichelleArrow1 Can't wait to read this. Having breakfast with my mum (84). She concurs- "women were really under the thumb before, he gave women more say and made a big difference. " The stories Mum tells about the total disregard so many men had towards women in the 50s and 60s. 🙄
@MichelleArrow1 Why don't we celebrate by forgiving HECS inflation debt for carers ? It also acts as a barrier for mid-career upskilling. To me, this is a much bigger issue that pay in large corporations. It speaks to valuing caring and flexible careers over a lifetime.
Let's talk about how young women accrue HECS debt through inflation, while taking timeout to care for young kids. We need financial literacy training for young people who want education and children. We need to stop this debt increasing while people perform caring duties #IWD
Playing DND with 9 year olds comes in two flavors
1. Trying to find ways to resolve things and make the Zombie our friend
2. Doing things that are recognized as war crimes
