I am sad to hear that Colonel Susan Meyers has been fired as the commander of the American Pituffik (Thule) Space Base in Greenland.

As chairman of Denmark's defense committee, I arranged a trip to Pituffik in August and we had the pleasure of Colonel Meyers' company. She is a very nice person.

JD Vance went to Pituffik to tell people that Denmark is doing a bad job and is a bad ally. There are approximately 150 Americans at Pituffik and 200 Danes and Greenlanders. I am not sure if Vance knew that he has was talking to more Danes than Americans when he made his remarks, but obviously remarks like that are not great for the crucial cooperation between Danes and Americans at the base.

Colonel Meyers seems to have tried to smooth it out by writing an email to her subordinates saying
she "spent the weekend thinking about Friday's visit -- the actions taken, the words spoken, and how it must have affected each of you." "I do not presume to understand current politics, but what I do know is the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base”

"I commit that, for as long as I am lucky enough to lead this base, all of our flags will fly proudly -- together”.

Now this very popular base commander has been fired and I suppose we will get a new commanders who does not respect Denmark because that is apparently a requirement for having the job.

Thank you, Colonel Meyers. We have appreciated our cooperation very much.
