Plug-in hybrids are having a moment because the panicking legacy car industry is promoting them as the best of all worlds. But they are an evolutionary dead end. In Norway, the world's most mature EV market, with long distances and cold winters, pure BEVs are 92% and PHEVs 2%.
More bad news to come. We’re not witnessing an EV market issue, it’s specifically a traditional OEM problem. The endgame for incumbent EU and US manufacturers that have and continue to resist change via various means - hybrid whataboutery, bad EV product, press, protectionism..
Must watch on House of Commons reform @EllieChowns
Dr Ellie Chowns, "As a newly elected member, I'd like to offer observations on three elements on how this house operates: sitting, speaking and voting"
➡️ Sitting
- Chamber is too small
- In Council and in European parliament we had own seat, desk, plug in devices
- Extraordinary there aren't enough seats for every MP
There is a practice of Christian prayers, as a daughter of preachers I am familiar with this. But in this day and age where we are a mix of all faiths and none, it might be time to represent a range of faiths
➡️ Speaking
- If we have more time limits more MPs would be incentivised to speak
- Trying to get a slot, bobbing up and down, last week I did for five solid hours without getting attention of the speaker
- This is not good for a democracy
- Find a better way of allocating speaking time
- The culture in this house is everything from excessive deference to braying, we need to clean to clean up politics, we are here to debate in as positive a spirit as possible
➡️ Voting
- It's extraordinary we do not have electronic voting
- While I've been here I've participated in 5 votes, that's taken 1.25 quarter
- If you add up all the votes thats 1.5 months of MPs time, totally unproductive
- If we got rid of the voting lobbies we could double the physical size of the chamber (everyone could then have a seat)
"My final point, if we want to be a truly modern house of commons: proportional representation"
Great move by both. @VW as their EV product has been underwhelming and @Rivian given investment and opportunity to influence a global powerhouse. Good news! #ev
BREAKING: VW is taking a $1B stake in Rivian, and will invest another $4B to form a joint venture.
Riven stock shot up 30% after-hours on the news. The companies said they will develop "next generation" battery-powered vehicles with leading edge software. https://t.co/eVZesL2Puu
100%. Denial and subterfuge is not a replacement for focus, inventiveness and investment. Kodak is absolutely right. But…. the kicking and screaming is/will create a wild market in the interim #ev
Next time someone promotes those "EV sales are collapsing, no one wants EVs" stories, tell them to read this: "I Went To China And Drove A Dozen Electric Cars. Western Automakers Are Cooked." Cheering on car companies' Kodak moment is as dumb as it gets.

@AukeHoekstra@DrSimEvans Unfortunately we’ve reached the ‘gloves off’ stage of the fossil/ICE fight to slow the transition. Ref also the pushing of the ‘hybrid is the answer’ button by the paid automotive press
Well @BBCNews - another doozy.. 7 wks after lords enquiry on EV disinfo. No ICE fire no’s & the inference that the Luton Airport fire was caused by ICE.. BUT made far worse by EV’s is quite something https://t.co/6nIAWmwwY0 @AukeHoekstra@MLiebreich@faircharge@QuentinWillson
And that is one example of why the existing automotive tiered system (inc insurance, who are locked into ICE repair interests and revenue models) is screaming #ev
My Mom has now owned her 2022 Model Y Long Range for 2 years.
16,500 miles on the car. She’s visited a Tesla service center zero times and says reliability has been good.
Only maintenance has been a flat tire and some windshield washer fluid. 95% of the time she charges at home.
She’s says it’s the best and most fun car she’s ever owned. When she first bought it I remember her saying the car was easier to use than she thought it’d be.
Good to see such resilience. Unfortunately this attack was perhaps an inevitable escalation given endless, motivated misinformation concerning EV’s - and not a good look in an ICE reliant economy that’s struggling to compete in the changing market #ev#tesla
The Tesla Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, together with its workforce, has decided today to make a statement tomorrow, Friday, March 8th, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Gigafactory. They want to show that they will not be interrupted in any way, but will continue and protest against this attack.
Therefore, Tesla calls on all employees and their families to gather for a two-hour assembly to protest against this terrorist attack. This is what the employees of the Tesla Gigafactory have requested. The employees are dismayed and saddened and therefore want to make a statement with this event.
In the evening, they are to take out their phones and, like at a concert, let their flashlights shine. This emotional moment will be captured with a drone and is intended to set a sign for peace, strength, and the future.
Everyone in the Berlin-Brandenburg region is invited to come to the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, and also anyone else who has the time to make a statement and stand behind Tesla and the employees.
It will be an important moment for Tesla and the employees. Make a statement with Tesla!
The motto of the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg is: “WE ARE GIGA-4 THE FUTURE” and that’s what we all stand for!
