Have you seen that we are running our annual moth event again this July?! Last year's event, over two hundred species of moth were seen!
Why not come along? We already have people booked on for both the evening and morning sessions of this year's event!
An early afternoon visit to more woodland habitat on the North Downs… singing Tree Pipit, Spotted Flycatcher & Firecrest. Also 1 Red Kite. Another Red Kite being attacked by a Kestrel at Eastwell Lake. 2 Little Grebes amongst the many GCs. 2+ Spotted Flycatchers at Godmersham.
@dbbirding There were plenty of Red Kites at Bockhill and St. Margaret’s at Cliffe this morning with 100+ on the move. Also Kestrel, Hobby, Peregrine and 1 Marsh Harrier (a female type that appeared to head out across the Channel). A few Swifts, Swallows & House Martins were also around.
RSPB Dungeness today: Bittern in flight, Red Kite, 2 Cattle & 2 Little Egrets, Ringed & Little Ringed Plovers, Warblers singing & plenty of Common Terns. Across the Romney Marsh, 2 Turtle Doves, 3 Cuckoos, 2 Yellow Wagtails, 3 Corn Buntings & views of a singing Lesser Whitethroat
Too much human disturbance around the Hothfield water bodies & patch tonight to see any decent bird activity. But a Roe Deer was a total surprise, following on from a rare Brown Hare sighting Sunday. The 8 crop fields all appear to have been planted with Maize. 7 Swifts. #PWC2026
… Nuthatch, Blackbirds, Song & Mistle Thrushes and 5 Warbler species singing; Chiffchaffs, Blackcaps, 3 Garden Warblers, 2 Common Whitethroats and the 1 singing Willow Warbler.
A pleasant stroll around Hothfield Heathlands KWT as it cooled down this evening. 1 singing Nightingale still, a smart Hobby that fed on insects over the dry water meadows, 4 Yellowhammers, 1 Linnet, 3 Goldfinches, Green & GS Woodpeckers…
@AlPavey Yes, Norfolk/Suffolk/Lincolnshire was great again. 2 male Nightjars chasing each other, roding Woodcock, Tree Pipit, 4 Stone Curlews, Spotted Flycatcher, pair of Ospreys, Temminck’s & Little Stints plus Curlew Sandpiper at Frampton Marshes, lots of Little Terns… fab week…
@MurrayOrchard@KentishStourCP@Godinton Not sure on the tree species. Cattle now being grazed in the area. Wonder if they are worried about falling branches landing on their animals?
We have now published the April #PWC2026 review on our blog! Click this link to head over and see where you ended up in the league tables, as well as all the interesting patch birds over the month: https://t.co/EGgS0eKt8E
Thanks to everyone who has taken part so far!
More breeding success at the Hothfield Flood Storage Reservoir; the male Stonechat was feeding at least 3 fledged juveniles!!! The first confirmed record for here👍👏. A Common Sandpiper was also around the reservoir margins. Rescued a juvenile Great Tit from a Jay too (Godinton)
#Patchbirding#PWC2026 after work walk today. Some great breeding records. 5+ Mandarin Ducklings with their parents on the Hothfield Waterfall Lake. Pair of Grey Wagtails. Also 3 House Martins flew N. Kestrel & C Buzzards overhead plus Blackcaps, Garden Warbler & Whitethroat.
#PWC2026#Patchbirding: More success over the rural Godinton Park fields this evening with a Hobby carrying prey (plenty of recently fledged juvenile Starlings in the area)… year ✅. Lots of Stock Doves & 4 Swifts & 20 House Martins overhead. 2 GC Grebes now on Singleton Lake.
The Green Sandpiper was still in this Godinton Park ditch. Yellowhammer & Skylark pair, 2 Whitethroats, up to 7 Swallows & 2 House Martins across the patch this evening plus usual waterbirds & breeders. There are now 3 herds of cattle on the patch.🤞 for a Cattle Egret soon.
Unbelievable evening on the patch, finding a TURTLE DOVE !!! #patchbirding#PWC2026. The bird was feeding with Stock Doves & Woodpigeons in the newly sown fields on rural Godinton Park, near the railway line. The first one here for many a year !!! Landscape changes = new species.
