Is @Scribd a scam? I cancelled a free subscription back in spring 2023 and have not logged in since then, yet I've just discovered I've been charged ยฃ10.99 a month.
@flipdrivel Some kind of paving slab. I may not have the exact petri-taxonomy but it is certainly slatier in-person than it appearโs in this pic. ๐
@Madrigirls@fronteirastl Buchanan's Falkirk song may be more original than the above. Worth checking if it has any relation to Gavin Greig/Scott Skinner's "The Dear Auld Ha".
@Madrigirls@fronteirastl These songs were perhaps all parodies of one another to an extent but were earnest enough in expression. They may have started to the tune of Kenmuirโs on an awa but developed their own tunes.
@Thechessboxer@RaggedTP I mean I presume Iโm preaching to the choir here. Quite why one group has a monopoly on โSemiticโ has never been clear to me.
@Thechessboxer@RaggedTP โSemiticโ as a term relates to linguistics. Of all the Semitic languages Arabic is by far the largest (geographical spread & speaker base), even more so if you count Egyptian and Levantine Arabic. Then thereโs Amharic, Aramaic & Hebrew. Israel isa tiny part of the Semitic world.
Iโll be talking at this event about โThe Ballads and Songs of Carrickโ a @scottishbktrust project I edited for this yearโs @GirvanFolkFest.
I might even be singing a song or two (yikes!).
Did we mention Ballads at Ballantrae?

@AilsaBoyd@GovanhillGo ๐๐ปTHIS. The bigger issue is that we live in a city where wholesale destruction of our built heritage by commercial interests is commonplace. Iโm reluctant to blame individuals for what is a wider issue but couldnโt this business have gone in to ANY other (non-iconic) unit?!?!??
