How will mangroves, tidal marshes and coral reef-island systems fare under global warming? Here we consider the implications of warming above 1.5 degrees, using sea level rise thresholds derived from the paleo record and our global observation network

We now have results from a modern reanalysis product (ERA5) that show November 17th was in fact the first day the world has experienced that was 2C above the preindustrial (1850-1900) average.
Hopefully it will prove transitory, but its a worrying sign.
@AndreRovai @iaeaorg Did they mention that @KerryleeRogers_ just led a 4 year training program for IAEA in blue carbon assessment under their regional cooperation agreement?

We’ve spent the last few years modelling the future of the Amundsen Sea in West Antarctica, and I regret to inform you that it’s not good news. https://t.co/h0i8ffIWN9
We must move beyond the mentality of appearing to be concerned about the climate crisis, while lacking the courage to effect substantial change. If the measures we could adopt now are costly, the cost will be all the more heavy the longer we wait. #DRRDay#LaudateDeum
New paper in @Nature today: We use a global observation network to investigate how coastal habitats will persist under global warming. @NeilSaintilan Open access here: https://t.co/7g04bEW5CL
An important feat in mangrove research in India. The first set of RSET is installed in Sunderbans. Many more to come. We will soon know how vulnerable the Indian mangroves to the sea level rise. Great to be part of this collaboration effort of @wii_india@CIFOR@iiserkol
A few pics of ~5000 hours of fieldwork to establish response of global tidal marshes to SLR. The importance of long-term monitoring and Don Cahoon's vision! https://t.co/GuPcumMmrP @NeilSaintilan @KerryleeRogers_ @danfriess@guntenspergen@JackieRaw_@NCormierFriess and others
Recipe for a Science paper:
20 years in the planning
~5000 hours of fieldwork
~12000 lines of code
1036 dedicated files
26 drafts
Take home: we can save our wetlands if we control GhG emissions

Let me say a word to the younger generation. You have had it tough — but in my humble opinion, you are a great generation. You are anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobia, anti-xenophobia. And your generation has shown the courage to take on corporate greed.
Congratulations to Professor @NeilSaintilan from the School of Natural Sciences for receiving a Humboldt Research Award. The award has been granted by Germany’s Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in recognition of Professor Saintilan’s accomplishments in research and teaching
