First global estimate of soil carbon stocks in tidal marshes!
The world’s marshes hold 1.4 billion tonnes of carbon, with 1/3 found in the United States 🇺🇸

Last night at #COP16, we joined partners to showcase how the innovative use of satellite imagery and open AI models is helping to map nature's footprint. This vital tool is supporting the Maldives in safeguarding its diverse and delicate biodiversity: https://t.co/5Mc5fZ9VsX
"We very much encourage everybody to get behind the Global Ecosystems Atlas."
@UNEP Executive Director @andersen_inger outlined why it's so important to #MapEcosystems at our #COP16Colombia side event to launch the Atlas proof-of-concept.
We need an open-access, comprehensive map of the 🌍 ecosystems to monitor, conserve & manage efforts to protect biodiversity and help reverse nature loss.
At #COP16Colombia@GEOSEC2025 side event, stressed that by mapping natures footprint, we can go further, faster, together.
🌏Insights from Australia’s unique and diverse ecosystems will be used to boost global conservation efforts thanks to a game-changing online atlas. @remotelysense@benjycresswell

We present the first global, spatially-explicit map of SOC in tidal marshes at 30 m resolution, summarized in the figure below.
We have a new paper in @PNASNews on migration ecology - this study led by @S_Lisovski investigates the vulnerability of migratory shorebirds to environmental change. New models that can better estimate the future migration needs of migratory shorebirds. https://t.co/z6IK3xmZER
Our new review is out today in @NatureGeosci: Human activities have altered the production, transport and fate of mud and associated organic carbon, with important implications for global carbon cycling.

Some figures from the paper: 1.5 million training samples, >400 contributors, >2.1 million satellite images and 100 trillion pixels of data to produce a global 5-m map of coral reef ecosystems. Available for free on the ACA website: https://t.co/8XC2a02S1c
Finally the main @AllenCoralAtlas paper is out! The paper acts as a scientific reference and summary of the ACA, including global reef extent, and the distribution of benthic and geomorphic class. Congratulations to paper lead @mitchest and the ACA team. https://t.co/oF8xdUPnZy
