Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of ten mountaineers, including the renowned Nirmal Purja, in the avalanche on Broad Peak, Gilgit-Baltistan.

My heartfelt condolences go to the bereaved families and to the Governments and people of China, Nepal, Oman, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

We also mourn one of our own Pakistani mountaineer, Sohail Sakhi of Hunza, whose courage and abiding passion for the high mountains will be remembered with pride.

The determination and pursuit of excellence shown by all those who perished embodied the true spirit of mountaineering and will continue to inspire generations.

I commend the tireless efforts of our rescue and recovery teams, whose professionalism under the most demanding high-altitude conditions deserves our deepest appreciation.

Pakistan remains fully committed to the ongoing search, rescue, and recovery efforts, in close coordination with @cathaypak; @NepEmbIsb; @usembislamabad; @OmanEmbassy & @UKinPakistan.

May the departed souls rest in eternal peace. Ameen🤲

The bodies of four mountaineers, Mr. Nirmal Purja 'Nims Dai', Mr. Nima Sherpa, Mr Kili Pemba Sherpa 'Kilu' & Mr. Wang Zhong are being brought to Camp I & downwards. The Embassy will facilitate the repatriation of mortal remains of the Nepali mountaineers to Kathmandu.

The bodies of Nepali mountaineers, Mr. Pur Bahadur Gurung Yukta & Mr. Gyalu Sherpa have been found and recovered. We commend the search and recovery team from Pakistan and Nepal for their brave recovery efforts in extreme conditions.

The Embassy team met Maj. Gen. Irfan Arshad Khan, President, Alpine Club of Pakistan, to receive an update on the ongoing search & rescue operation on Mt. Broad Peak. Ambassador urged the mobilization of all possible resources to intensify efforts and expedite the operation.
