@RandPaul "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury." Alexander Fraser Tytler
Let me tell you about three men. They never met. They're the same guy.
---
Tokyo, 1871.
Takeda's family carried swords for eleven generations. His stipend — paid in rice, fixed by law — fed his household his entire life. Then foreign traders found a loophole: Japan priced gold at 5:1 against silver while the world priced it 15:1. They hauled Japan's gold out by the shipload, prices exploded, and Takeda's fixed stipend bought less every season until it bought nothing.
He never lost a fight. He lost an exchange rate.
Here's what Japan did next, and it's the whole point: they didn't pension him off or let him rot. The new government looked at a hundred thousand ruined swordsmen and saw discipline, literacy, and pride — and made them the engineers, teachers, and officers who built modern Japan in one generation. The samurai class died. Takeda didn't. His grandson built ships.

Ohio, 1998.
Dale ran a line at the mill, like his father. High school diploma, union card, house paid off by 50 — the deal his whole town was built on. Then the deal moved overseas. The economists said trade makes everyone richer, and in the aggregate they were right. But Dale doesn't live in the aggregate. He lives in Youngstown.
Nobody converted Dale. He got a severance check and a pamphlet. His town got fentanyl. And twenty years later everyone acted shocked that his kids didn't trust the system.
We knew the playbook. Japan wrote it 130 years earlier. We skipped it.

Anywhere, USA, 2026.
Tyler is 28. He did everything right — degree, no arrests, works hard. He did the math on a house last month: the down payment grows slower than the price. The math says never.
So Tyler is reading about socialism. Not because the arguments got better — they haven't changed since 1848. He's reading it because a man with nothing to own has nothing to defend.
And here's what history screams at us: this exact moment has happened before. Germany in the 1880s, socialism rising fast. Bismarck — an aristocrat who despised socialists — didn't out-argue them. He out-BUILT them: pensions, insurance, a stake in the system for the working man. The movement starved. America did it twice — after the Gilded Age, after the Depression. Every time, the fix wasn't winning the debate. It was making the Tylers owners.
The empires that refused? Russia. Qing China. They kept their arguments and lost their countries.

Three men. One story. Trade and technology create real wealth — and someone always works the spread while the bill lands on a man who never got a vote. Takeda's gold. Dale's mill. Tyler's house.
The societies that survived didn't protect the past. They converted their people into the future. The ones that collapsed defended the system instead of the citizen — and lost both.
I run a shop floor. I can't find enough skilled trades. The jobs are real, they pay, and a kid with a trade and a path to a house has zero use for revolution. The fix has been sitting in the history books since 1871.
The best anti-communist program ever invented is a job worth having and a house you can actually buy.
It still is.
A dollar from 1980 is worth about $4 today. A dollar from 1900, about $40.
I went down a rabbit hole on this and ended up in 1840s China and 1860s Japan. Stay with me.
Britain ran a trade deficit with China — they wanted tea, China only wanted silver. So Britain sold opium to reverse the flow. The silver drain wrecked China's economy before a single shot was fired. That's how they lost Hong Kong.
Japan: when the ports were forced open, Japan valued gold at 5:1 against silver. The rest of the world valued it at 15:1. Foreign traders ran that arbitrage until Japan's gold was gone. The inflation that followed bankrupted the samurai — their stipends were fixed. The class was broke before it was ever beaten in battle.
Sound familiar? Every one of these stories is the same story: trade creates real wealth, but somebody always figures out how to work the spread, and the bill lands on people who never got a vote. The opium addict. The samurai. The mill worker in 1998. The guy watching his savings buy 25% of what it did when he started working.
Here's the part nobody talks about. Japan didn't just lose its samurai — it HIRED them. The Meiji government took a displaced warrior class and turned them into engineers, officers, and industrialists. The class died. The people didn't.
That's the fix, and it's not complicated:
1. Stop pretending disruption has no losers. It does. Name them, count them, budget for them.
2. Convert people, don't warehouse them. Real training for real jobs — skilled trades, controls, machining — not a pamphlet and a severance check. I hire in this space. The jobs exist. The pipeline doesn't.
3. Let workers own a piece of what replaces them. If automation eats the job, the person who held it should hold some of the upside.
4. Quit debasing the scoreboard. If a dollar saved in 1980 is a quarter today, you've taxed every careful person in the country without a vote. Growth that requires eroding savings isn't growth — it's a transfer.
Capitalism made us rich because it destroys what's obsolete. It'll keep us rich only if we're better at rebuilding the people than we are at destroying their jobs. Japan figured that out in 1870. We're still working on it.
@OrevaZSN 100% agree, then you can’t let every country compete in our country…. You can’t have free trade and competition from people that pay peanuts or beers. Governments idea of controlling unions? Now entire government is union, weird right….
Definitely think there is still value out there. Still worth putting 110%. It is most definitely harder no matter what people say. Access is easier, access to bury yourself in debt, despair, and heartache. Unfortunately, the system that built so much wealth has been degraded over the years, mostly just bad policy. 380 million people and we had people actually think we can be a service country. It’s insane. Only way is if each state becomes their own country, I feel like that’s the way we are heading. Easy to be a Norway when your dealing with 13-20 mil people, protect your state jobs, start state tarrifs to protect workers from terrible governments like mine in my State. Oh well back to work!!!!!! So I can afford my electric bill and insurance.
@Breadandbuttrs@dubsndoo 100% can’t wait for these guys to get out. So much information out there, yet they still act like everyone is retarded. We just want our kids and grandkids to have opportunities.
lol yes I cry and wet my pants, wtf. No, just not going to sit here and have bullshit repeated over and over. Your generation will be a stain forever. Under your watch, let’s just look at Education, housing costs, growth of government, ethical business, ethical humans, name 1 thing your generation has helped and not hurt. Please.
lol, you are an idiot, your generation sold out America, period. You want facts, Jesus I can lay out facts upon facts. You sir are an absolute moron. You allowed the sell off of American companies because your grandkids shouldn’t work in factories, let me ask you this, how did you gain your education? Was it from not having the opportunity to gain knowledge through work, or pride in what you made. I just can’t the absolute selfish narcissistic you is just insane, you are an absolute moron, you think you and your generation are smarter? Look it up, you weren’t, you suck, you will go down in history as the most selfish humans that ever existed. You don’t believe me, use AI, use google, you can’t erase the ignorance of your Generation…..
I do not think that is racism, more prejudice. I know everyone wants to make everyone racist, sorry to say huge stretch, I definitely don’t go to bed at night thinking about how to kill a black person or have any hate in my heart for anyone. But as of right now we keep paying more and more, to supplement or supposedly supplement all this racism, I still work 70-100 hours a week, don’t have anymore to give, best be time to get off your ass and do something. I give it another 10 years, then you might see some racism.
@SCraider1983@leonardcwright@chamath Man, seems like tariffs would help the American worker gain some leverage, seems like a better trade off, billionaires get penalized for offshoring, people gain value, obviously there are downsides to this, less profit, less 401k value, inflation, Or socialism.
@WallStreetApes I honestly am just happy as hell other people are catching on to this absolute nonsense. My wife and three kids pay over 2400 per month. It’s highway robbery.
@SaltyGoat17 Kind of what happens when we systematically create a bunch of retards….. good men let this happen by having empathy. No longer I can tell you that. Truth over feelings.
Yes let’s avoid responsibility all together that’s the going thing right? I can take advantage so I will. This is exactly what is wrong in the world today, we have systematically removed morality, or it’s been so confused that people really do not know right from wrong. Absurd viewpoint. It’s the guns fault. It’s the alcohol’s fault.
@RealJamesWoods It’s just constant idiocy, they have never had an intellectual debate? Where is it? Where is the communication of what she wants? Hard to have intellectual debate? Has there ever been one? I just hear white men are dumb.
