Most problems can be solved by spending extended time immersed in nature. In the mountains, by a body of water, in a vast jungle.
Nature is our reference for beauty. It brings out awe and reminds us of the insignificance of everything.
The earth has been around for 4.5 billion years. It will continue to be around long after us. We are irrelevant.
For some reason, that realization unlocks everything.
P.s. this was in Norway.
On a trail hike yesterday, I met someone who helps lead the buildout of data centers for one of the top US tech companies.
I took the opportunity to mention the announcement to build data centers in Vancouver.
He raised his eyebrow, citing the issue with city data centers is obviously power availability & space, but even more annoying - regulations for city buildings.
That said, he said there could be viable data centers for cities under the right conditions.
What are the chances of Vancouver centers being a success?
@KarmSumal Lots of potential in Vancouver and the province as a whole.
Also enormous talent at the universities for individuals/groups to spin off start ups. But roadblocks need to be removed to make this easier and incentivize growth.
Another update:
We received peer review feedback on our paper.
The reviewers were positive, and also had some insightful critical feedback and suggestions.
Based on their comments, we are performing some additional analyses. Early results indicate that these analyses will strengthen the story and overall the paper.
Weโll get this revision done and share the results soon ๐ช๐ป
Happy to report that this project has been a great success, and is resulting in a couple of manuscripts.
We submitted our first article to an open access journal for peer review. Will provide updates as they come.
The second article is in preparation and we aim to submit it in the coming months.

The federal government, Westbank and TELUS have announced three new AI data centres in B.C., including two in Vancouver; one at West Georgia and Beatty, and the second in Mt. Pleasant. It's a multibillion-dollar investment in Canadian data sovereignty and our city. #vanpoli
