It bothers me to no end that unis have "Special Ed" classes and programs but no Disability Studies classes. Teachers need to learn to promote disability justice rather than learning to perpetuate able-bodied centering of disability issues. #AcademicChatter#DisabilityTwitter
It’s absolutely ableist to think that #autistic people shouldn’t get adjustments just because the non-autistic people who don’t require adjustments aren’t getting them. #Autism#ActuallyAutistic
@HesterGrainger To summarize my opinion on it as an autistic person, when has autism "research" actually helped us? And when has searching for a genetic cause improved our quality of life? Autism speaks has done nothing but boost fear mongering narratives, why would I trust a study ran by them?
As usual, @commaficionado ‘s contributions to this sorry saga has been absolutely on point, and I have to include this.
Check his feed out, because there’s so much good stuff on there that it’s impossible for me to link to it all.

Why would a man who has seemingly dedicated his career to curing autism, suddenly work with an organisation that claims to be against doing that?
The fact that @Spectrum_10K are trying to airbrush this man’s previous work also invites further suspicion.
6/
So, to sum up. The man jointly in charge of the entire #Spectrum10k project has worked for a group called ‘Cure Autism Now’ and considers Autism a “disease”.
So why on earth would he work with #Spectrum10k , who claim that the goal is not to “cure” Autism?
4/
Here’s another;
“His work focuses on identifying genetic factors that cause ASD and then using this knowledge to understand the mechanism of the disease.”
Disease.
Disease.
He views Autism as a disease.
3/
“He guided development of the Autism Genetic Resource Exchange, founded by Cure Autism Now, and now a program of Autism Speaks.”
So the man in charge of integrity for this study has worked for ‘Cure Autism Now’.
Well, that’s pretty explicit what his goal is.

@paulawright I have quite a fair bit of knowledge in that regards, being a PhD candidate focusing, amongst others, on psychoneuroimmunology. I am also autistic. Improving the wellbeing of autistics does not require a DNA sample. It requires social and environmental adjustments.
