08 June 1998 Sepp Blatter 🇨🇭 begins his 17 year and 122 day reign as FIFA President which ends in 2015 with him being suspended from participating in FIFA activities until 2027. Thanks to X for taking down previous posts!
Finally saw one in the wild!
First black-and-white package we’ve seen since Japanese snack maker @Calbee_JP introduced it to deal with the naphtha shortage caused by the Iran war.
Was my journalistic duty to buy a pack, right?
This is the wildest World Cup story yet. If someone in Toronto sells a ticket above face value they get fined $25,000 yet the city of Toronto bought 3,500 World Cup tickets early and then sold them to taxpayers at a markup as a “revenue generation strategy.” What the hell man.
I believe we now have evidence of FIFA's World Cup ticketing shell game: FIFA is colluding with third-party resale platforms for its own supply management.
Look at this SeatGeek map (secondary market!) for Saudi Arabia vs Cape Verde. The circled areas are not random single resale tickets, but large, contiguous blocks of seats: entire rows and swaths in sections 101/102, 112/113, 119/120, 134–137, 139, ...
The blue circles appeared weeks ago, then the purple blocks suddenly showed up a day or two ago, and the red blocks seem to have appeared recently too.
That's not what ordinary fan or even commercial scalper resale looks like who resell pairs, fours, and scattered seats. Instead, this looks like inventory being dumped in bulk onto secondary markets, at prices below FIFA's official site.
Why doesn't FIFA just lower prices on its own site Probably because official price cuts could trigger refund demands, chargebacks, or consumer-protection headaches from fans who already bought at much higher prices.
Instead FIFA keeps official prices high, avoids openly admitting the market-clearing price is lower, and moves unsold inventory through third-party resale platforms instead.
Since the start of the 2024-25 season, Premier League teams have played 21 knockout ties (two-legged rounds and finals) vs non-English opposition across the Europa League and Conference League. They have won all 21 ties.
Never been summoned for a press conference before 😂I *think* he’s remembering a Q here I asked a few weeks ago about 5 wins in a row. He said you are not convinced? They were 15 games without a win… Fair play, had a nice chat at the end. what a job he’s done.
"Almost". Hilarious. 0.06s slower than Oblique Seville, who came 8th in the Paris Olympic final!
But hey, he made big money, so he's laughing too. Meanwhile, in 3rd, at 10.39 (ALMOST breaking the U14 World Record!), Bracy earned $75,000.
Grifters sticking to the story, though
From the lead investigator in Operation Puerto on anti-doping since 2017:
“After the WADA investigations into Russia, I think the real fight against doping practically ended. Today it's difficult to recall any exemplary sanctions against major athletes or teams”.
not the point really but the creeping use of "could of" instead of "could have" in quasi-official social media statements is a shocking decline in popular literacy
Pep is leaving City at the end of this season. I expect, in the main, the tributes to be amazing, with NO mentions of his doping past (https://t.co/R36WZh41zM) and few mentions of Man City's long-established non-compliance with football financial rules that allowed such £ spend.
🚨 Rochdale and York City have released the following joint statement:
“This Saturday’s game brings an end to one of the most thrilling, exciting and unpredictable title races in football history. Both ourselves and Rochdale have the chance to write our names in National League history.
The National League is no longer a non-league competition. It is effectively a League 3, with fully professional clubs operating at a level equal to or higher than many of those in League 2.
We both understand how important this game is to both clubs and supporters. We both pledge now that whatever happens tomorrow, we will both continue to fight for 3UP.
Both clubs sit on over 100 points. One of us will have to fight once more in the National League Play-Offs. However, we both strongly believe that this shouldn’t have to be the case.
We call on the National League, Football Regulator, EFL and Premier League to come together immediately and resolve this issue, so that we do not have to highlight this injustice year after year.
For both sets of supporters attending the Crown Oil Arena this weekend, we say thank you for being with us all season. The passion you’ve shown for both clubs has been felt across the world. This game will be seen far and wide. We want to showcase this league for all its potential. Keep your support in the stands, not on the pitch, and let’s all protect the game we love.
Thank you!
Rochdale AFC & York City FC”
When Sir Bobby Robson completed his final chemotherapy session in 2007, his oncologist Dr Ruth Plummer pulled him to one side. Her department was outdated, a new cancer unit had been planned, but there was no money to equip it. Did he know anyone who could help?
He took it home to his wife Elsie. She backed it without hesitation, and the phone calls started. A committee formed, and the idea emerged — use his name, build a charity around it.
Bobby wasn’t comfortable with it at first. But once his name was attached, there was no going back.
The target was £500,000 by summer 2008. The launch at the Copthorne Hotel was an immediate success, with Des Lynam, Bob Wilson and Jim Rosenthal all showing up out of nothing but goodwill.
Seven weeks later, they’d raised £560,000.
Today, the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation has raised over £20 million for cancer research.
Legend. ❤️
