I'm inspired by the 30 Days of Service Challenge.
Using knowledge of the #SDG s & their local community, have the students suggest 30 acts of service to create their own challenge.
Make time to reflect on the impact the service has had on their community. #EDUC4750#UoNTeach
@Corey79567614 Absolutely @Corey79567614 I can easily see such organisations as local lions clubs, rotary groups and Men's shed for example but there would also be specific businesses in each area that could be approached to get involved.
Take Action! Fundraising to help others can be difficult with many worthwhile causes. This is a simple, sustainable way to raise funds with little effort & a great message. TEACHERS - ask students how they can help their community with the money raised. #Educ4750#UoNTeach#SDG
What a great whole school approach! This will help reduce the #plastic, #glass and #aluminium entering our environments! Plus the funds collected can go towards other sustainable projects like a community garden!
Thanks for sharing @LBiddle31! #Educ4750#UoNTeach
Get a postcard from Paddington Bear!
Gift @unicefaustralia $20 per mth & Paddington will send a postcard from a country in the world. You will learn about the country & the kids who live there. TEACHERS this as a fun way to introduce global perspectives with young ones. #Educ4750
@Miss_Gascoigne Many years ago they were able to use snail slime to create identification on the fruit. It was very labour intensive but it goes to show there are natural alternatives!
#theglobalwrite has writing inspiration, connecting to global issues. Students share their ideas while learning to appreciate the views of others. BEST PART? they can share their work with the world in the online gallery. https://t.co/dH5Vw28RXV

The build up of suspense and wonder as learners wait for the prompt they will write about for the week.
Three platforms for publishing @wakelet @Flipgrid and @Buncee & the chance for creativity and critical thinking.

@BehindTheNews an awesome resource for developing global citizens. I love the curriculum specials & activities for building deeper understanding. Students learn about local & global issues such as the #SDGs from different perspectives. #EDUC4750#UoNTeach https://t.co/TZ7qpK45ZA
@ZebJohnston@UNrefugees I am pleased you found it interesting. It is a very sophisticated app that would draw the students in to significant understanding and required deep reflection. However it would be a powerful tool to inspire action!
There's an app for that?! #UNHCR@UNrefugees app 'My Life as a Refugee' provides young people an insight into the challenges and choices faced by a refugee as they seek a better life. A great tool for older students. #Educ4750#UoNTeach#sdg16 https://t.co/vybFbZiwLX
7 points to consider when inviting the community into school life #inclusivity With a multicultural society students must see their school as a positive eg of peaceful communities. #EDUC4750#UoNTeach#sdg16 IT lessons, Cooking classes, Sport, Music night
TEACHERS! How will you ensure #inclusivity in your community projects?
As we encourage our community to engage in activities such as yoga, pilates, meditation & mindfulness craft, I will be leaning on the 7 Pillars of Inclusion framework to ensure inclusivity for all #UoNTeach
My beloved Uganda is vaccinating refugees in their country for #COVID19#HealthForAll A simple news headline like this could start a great discussion in the classroom #EDUC4750#UoNTeach I hope my adopted families in Lwanyonyi village will soon receive the vaccine. #sdg16
@Corey79567614 I can see lots of activities building from the book even from ES1 - 'What special things would you pack in your suitcase?'. The unit will focus on refugees and will project based.
For Ss to empathise with a refugee's journey Cuc Lam's red suitcase is a real-life story with ties between Asia and Aus. https://t.co/iUPZWVHn8U . For younger students, similar ideas can be explored through the picture book The Red Suitcase, Giles Baum. #EDUC4750#sdg16#UoNTeach

Do yourself a favour and explore the 'Thinking Globally' resource from @globaledau So many great ideas on how to integrate global ideas into the classroom authentically and details activities, images and pedgogies.

Exploring the plight of REFUGEES through DANCE? Absolutely! #sdg16
An engaging TEDTalk incorporating appreciation of dance.

@teachwithnat @TaneekaTeach I thought about making a ball with a class. There aren't many plastic bags anymore but they could collect soft plastics from lunches then collaborate to make the ball. Next ask how effective the ball is, measure how far the ball rolls, try playing a game etc. cross KLA lessons
Challenge for #EDUC4750#UoNTeach#SDG14#sdg13 On prac in a farming town students had no concept of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. All waste is burned on the farm. Addressing climate issues would require local knowledge and a different approach in these communities. Food for thought...
@IsaacHaines1 The K-6 school I work at give these details to students. This is done through PDHPE work and then during 1 to 1 conversations with students when relevant. Staff recently discussed the importance of teaching well-being subjects early in the year so students have strategies.
