🚨🚨 While making over 200 staff redundant,
@RoehamptonUni are hiring lecturers on hyper-precarious, hourly-paid contracts for *eighteen* different subjects.
Beyond shameful.
Let's organise together to roll back casualisation.

It explores grief and memorialisation in an increasingly digitised and eco-conscious world, and it would seem that the main concept is not completely far-fetched: https://t.co/nRz4DbF321

EARLY STRIKE POST - @Bristol_UCU
I am tired. I know I'm not alone in that & likely not the most exhausted amongst us, but it's not a competition. We're likely as united in our sense of burn-out as we are in our frustration & determination.
This week I'm burned by explaining.
Jst heard a Uni Vice Chancellor on wireless telling Trade Union leader Jo Grady that 75,000 staff on zero hours contracts in Unis are there out of choice. Truth is that's the only choice you have if you want to work, do zero hrs teaching, move around country, do several jobs.
Frothing up hatred against “woke, lazy lecturers” is a convenient distraction from the LITERAL SHITSHOW the Tories are presiding over. They’ve got large swathes of the country *gagging* to see uni staff be punished
@Tom_Nicholas Sounds amazing! I'd also recommend Bergen and the Vestland area more generally if you can manage it, but you'd prob need a car. What are the guest lectures if you can share?
A modest proposal: all PGR students should be given automatic extended access to IT services, including email & library borrowing rights for at least 3 years AFTER completing a PhD. No application process or form.
Props to @nusuk 4 supporting @ucu. It makes sense as *staff working conditions are student learning conditions*
Too few, overworked staff? Student learning and support impacted. Staff on precarious contracts? Students unable to sustain working relationships.
HE failing every1.
Today we have to mount the fight back against the devastating government attack on arts and humanities courses at English universities
